I topped of the wood room today,,,, in shorts and a flannel:yes:,,,,,,,,, 56 around noon. Yesterday woke up to 1/4" of ice. Held on all day.
Got into a mess of oak and maple in the pile,,, good timing for whats coming. I think my days of filling the wood room from the outside pile are limited now. 3 cord in the attached shed ,,, I'm good !:D

Got the oak and beech in close, only going to 0 or single digits so we'll leave the hickory and locust rest awhile longer.

I hear that I have some Hickory cooking in the breeze, someday it will be ready to go, but I got some Hickory sticks to mix in, they work pretty well burn hot

Loaded the house with oak and locust today Wind kills us, even with all the "fixes." Stove room and bedroom will be toasty, kitchen/bathroom, frigid. I also planned meals around oven temperature required for cooking. :)

Hear that freight train coming ...

I like a good weather challenge, but I don't envy you northern folks. Our lowest temps last winter were around -10, I couldn't imagine what 10 or 20 degrees less than that would feel like.
Supposed to get to 2F on Thurs night here. Got some Osage set aside for the colder nights, 3 days worth of wood next to the stove and a little more than a face cord on the front porch. Shouldn't need to go hit the big stacks until the weather breaks...if it breaks.

The bizarre thing is, we sat out on the patio last night without the propane heater running, it was 61 at 8pm.

Don't take it offensively but it would be very helpful if we knew your location in your profile, or signature

Think nothin' of it, no offense taken. My name is my location. I'm about 300 miles directly south of you.

    Lol, thats great!:D

The winds are coming in strong! Despite the winds howling, the temps are still warm inside and out. I loaded the stove, went outside and watched the smoke blow down from the stack, down past the spotlight and into the woods! Our cold front should be in by morning and continue to drop the temps. Only snow in the forecast is a few inches on tuesday.

Saturday was a nice and mild day here...mid to upper 20's. Sunday, it did just what they said! Windy and temp did nothing but drop lower and lower all day. Wind chill started out at -18. By evening, the temp was -18 with a wind chill of -41. And about 6" of the white stuff.
    Yup, the cold snap came!!

Gonna move a couple 5 gal buckets full of kindling I've been saving up, down by the stove and then clean out the ash. Very windy here right now as this cold front moves into Maine. Not bad right now, about 30. That's gonna change tonite and the rest of the week. First really cold temps.

How'd you make out jetjr restocking the garage last night after work?

It is 8 right now, with 3-5" forecasted for tonight. Gets cold for a bit after that (about as cold as it gets around here).

I got about a 1.5 weeks worth in the basement and another week's worth on the trailer in the shop ready to drop in the wood room. I might be persuaded to bring in a few sticks of hedge for Tue and Wed night...not sure if oak is up to the task of heating this shack in those temperatures.
