Hi guys.... Is it me or does a piece of beech burn differently than other woods, I mean, I see such beautiful flames when I'm only burning beech, does anyone else see this.....thanks
Never bured any. Would love to try some Colored flames ? Wonder why chemicals are involved Good BTU wood also
Beech is by far one of my favorites. High density, splits like a dream, burns great, low ash and for some reason everyone only wants Maple making it easier to scrounge. I have to laugh when multiple trees are down on the same lot and guys are going after the silver maple and leaving the beech. We get some big ones in the city but unfortunately they get some nasty fungus and don't get very big in the mountains. Still burns good but not making 8x8 splits out of them.
Yup when you dry it properly it puts off a beautiful blue flame. I have been burning Beech this year and part of last it's fantastic.
you all are making me want to cut down a beech tree. I have a huge one down in the woods but I dont really have a way of getting it out. Its acroos a stream and in a swampy area.
Exactly like that backwoods savage! Its a monster of a tree and would be a great score if I didn't have to build a bridge and sled to get it out.
Beech does give a pretty flame and is one of my personal favorites as well. I like the smooth bark and little mess. For several years I burnt beech almost exclusively.
Do it all time milleo in fact I am burning just beach right now. How big of a split are you burning ? The smaller it is the more splits the more off gassing the more heat no matter what you burn. That was long winded.
Lol...Can't really put that much in this little stove but loaded with all beech one time not paying attention and it really went ballistic and temp flew up to 600 almost immediately then creeped up to 650 and was a little unnerving to me at the time....
It dries fast around 1 year or less unless you split it extra large then it will be longer. The first time burned beech it was 6 months down and already at 18% in the center.
Beech is good wood. Unfortunately the beech scale/bark disease is messing it up in the north east. It isn't bad here in NJ yet but it is real bad at my camp in VT. Once beech gets infected it gets punky/rotten spots and is a royal beech to split. It is sad to see the once majestic smooth bark groves become pocked up garbage trees.
