Had some old 6" duct pipe and decided to try a short piece from the top of the stove up to a floor register. No connection, just routing the heat to get an idea how involved it had to be. I could feel a little heat immediately above the floor (no surprise) when the stove top was under 200 degrees. It's now at 600 and the heat's coming up thru as expected. May add a boot under the register and tie it in. I'm guessing it's 4x the heat as before...

Any thoughts on an in-line booster fan to push air up? Even at the grate with a boot should give you good results. Just thinkin' out loud.
Yep, a 6v-14v fan is sittin in the shop. This was kinda of a lessee what it does thing. It's very noticeable in here right now. And it took far less time to get warm from a cold stove. That was the main thing. There are 2 more of those floor regs in the livrm and kitchen that act as cold air returns, with no fan. Plan might be to duct a full loop with filters and that fan on the cool air side. From what I've seen so far tho, it's clear that just adding a boot under the reg and tie it in straight to the stove, would be the best KISS solution.
Oh yes, that open grate is going to get you a problem. Here in maine, they are illegal, considered To be a fire hazard. Put a metal box and attach the stove pipe to it and you will be OK.
I guess I'm glad the insurance inspector fellow who came thru here when we bought the place didn't notice those Save. He was all over the woodstove too... even came back to follow up. Boots under all 3 regs might be hapnin soon...
It swings sideways and sits on the edge of the stove. Don't know yet if that'll be enough. I'll get my honey to put her nose right down on that register when I'm cleaning the ashes so... ...
The boots may be a better idea, if it was open like in your picture, it would have to have a spring loaded (or gravity type) fire door to pass for fire. I have one inbetween my first and second floor, the vent is offset from the stove but sends up plenty of heat upstairs
