I sifted them very carefully, as I did not want a auger jam, or worse!

Some of my pellet pallets were 60 bags high, instead of 50 bags high. Thats what I assumed he was talking about.

Heartland uses the "bakers dozen" version of the 60 bag ton. I believe they call it a long ton and it's a term from the olden days but this is all hearsay....

YUP- 60 bags on 1 pallet. Actually the truck did most of the work 1/2 ton at a time, I just loaded from the garage then unloaded and carried in one at a time into the basement for stacking :D

There is one more 60 bag and one 50 bag pallet left to go. I hope to get them moved Friday or Saturday before the snow comes on Sunday or they stay where they are until needed: 1 bag at a time through the house. I doubt that we will get another thaw before spring.

Nah, still 40 lb bags. I did see someone that had 25lb bags with a handle a few years ago.

Not really up on the latest for this weekend storm but hopefully it wont be much as it is supposed to start at snow, change to mix or rain and then get cold again. Sigh, I hate ice winters

Not sure if you have seen another thread here, I commented the Heartlands appear to burn hotter with no clinkers. Rocky Mtns require more stove maintenance, clinkers, and I tend to turn the stove hotter when they are in.

I had a strange run with Heartlands recently. We had to bags that ran flawlessly, and one that clinkered up like crazy. It's been a wild two years for pellets in my part of the world. I have been buying a lot of Confluence energy pellets which make two brands... Rocky Mountains and Eco Flames. They have all been hit and miss... to a point. It seems like every ton is different.

I'm still burning the Western Wood Products pellets and they are awesome. I'm not sure if its the material or the fact they are all 1/2" long or shorter but they have been cranking in my stove for a number of days and almost no clinkers. Good stuff. I still wish I could see some of the pellets the east coast burners speak so highly of but I know the shipping costs would be awful.

Will say it again, just remember the pellet mfg's use local plants/material and badge them with their own name, that way they do not have to ship.It keeps costs down yet keeps their proffits up,yet makes pellet quality a game for consumers. This has been going on for years, and I do not expect to see it change, which is why I burn Ligs, the plant is close so I get consistent product, not like lots of the country.

For sure, with such a heavy product it wouldn't make sense to move it so far across the country.

From what I heard, the material the forest service has providing around CO has been pretty dirty and less than ideal. This is why the product produced locally has been inconsistent. I cant verify this in any way, it's just what distributors etc. have been telling me. I have a plant that is located within a 45 minute drive from my doorstep and can buy them from a place 7 minutes from my house and even they aren't as consistent as I'd like (and also have a LOT of fines so I rarely use them)

It is what it is, not a lot different than buying firewood when I had my wood burner really. Sometimes I got stiffed, sometimes it was grand.

The spice of life right! It still keeps my electric meter from spinning like a top so I'm happy.

I hope this includes the pic, but I have been burning those pellets the past few days and if I remember right the bag says they come from New Mexico. It didn't include the pic but the Western Wood Product pellets have been treating me really well. I get them at Big R
