So I have this Husqvarna 61 that I have fixed up...and turned into a Cottonwood cutting machine !!! But Im having a hard time pinning down the date on it . This was made in Slovenia . I have scoured the internet...and could only come up with it being a 1985 or 1995 . I read that if it had the Tillotson 159 (I think) carb...that it was a newer more powerfull version . This one has that carb.......but I still need more !! LOL Any help would be greatly appreciated
If definitely 1985 or 1995, I'd say it must be a 1995 - completely different and newer style than my mid-80's 61. Cheers!
it was made in the 47 week of 1995. 70's models were white top thru the early 80's. early 80's to 1990 were grey tops, and 1990 and newer were orange tops.
nice looking saw... that's a oddball, there, the white tops had the metal chain brake handles and most grey tops had a plastic chain brake grayish "flag". Don't think i've ever seen a grey top 61 with a metal chain brake handle...
I've got the white top version too - but the piston was scored - otherwise, in great shape - I've been keeping as a parts saw for the grey top, but might eventually throw a top end on it and make it a runner! Cheers!
Thanks - this saw was a gift from my older neighbor - he can't lug it anymore and knew I love saws - we are good friends so he gave it to me! He bought the saw used when he moved up here in about 1986 - it was a used unit at a dealer when he went in to buy a saw to help clear his land. Here is a similar grey top 61 that is for sale on NH CL right now - with the metal flag. Also a white top 61 with metal flag that is also on NH CL, so perhaps the metal flags were at least present on the earlier grey tops if they switched later to a plastic flag. As you can see on mine, he had a bit of a tractor accident with the flag........bit of a bend a crack in the metal clutch cover - wish there was a better story, but he just almost backed right over her.....Cheers!
