I nominate the Microplane. It is nothing more than a rasp for food. It cannot be beat for things like zesting lemons, grating hard cheeses or ginger. It is readily available in most kitchen/home good stores and online for $10+ dollars. Its form factor makes it easier to clean and store over bigger box graters and rotary cheese grinders. You owe it to yourself to get one of these if you ever grate anything.
I'll have to buy one of those. Never had one. I heard my S.I.L. say this one time and thought it was a bit odd. Then I tried them. Scissors in the kitchen. Very handy. Back when she said this a long time ago no one was selling them for that purpose. Now when you buy a knife set for the kitchen they have a pair right in the set. Handy for opening all kinds of stuff.
For me, the most important kitchen utensil is SHARP knife. Straight edge, not serrated. After that would be a steel to keep it sharp. I can't seem to get AuntJoe to understand that a sharp knife is far safer than one with a mediocre edge. .
Microplanes are mighty handy when needed. Using fresh ground nutmeg vs store bought powder makes the difference. Its pretty high up there on the multitasking list too which I like. Today I get to play with this: Making country style steak.
I'll go with you on that. I took the knife for granted, along with pots and pans. I should have titled the thread "Best Accessory Kitchen Tool"
I love this tool, it's really only good for one thing, but it does an excellent job. I use A LOT of garlic.
He is very good at loading and unloading the dishwasher after he makes our mid-day meal. He also supplies all the very hot water through our wood-fired boiler system. I love our dishwasher!!!
I'd say the best kitchen tool is your sous chef. 99% of the time that's me though. If I'm grilling though, is the other way around and the wife is assisting me. Especially when my drink is empty. We use or microplane quite a bit too. I like our jaccard tenderizer, but it's a pita to clean, so my favorite tool would be the meat pulverizer /mallet.
I just put mine in the dishwasher after I use it, if i remember correctly thats what the instructions say to do
I would have to say definitely a sharp knife, a good quality thermometer and some good pans. I think her dishwasher brand is Campinspecter
I think I've mentioned this one before but here it goes. "why did the young bride wear white? To match all the other appliances"
These and a couple sharp knifes. i've got a pile of Kuhn Rikon Forged knives (swiss made) that I really love.
