Almost there!

Me and a friend got the st croix in place today. Im still waiting on one 60" length of pipe to complete the install but at least the tee came in so we were able to get it set in place and through the ceiling. I need that extra length to go through the roof. That galvalume piece at the top is just temporary to fill the hole. She looks nice with all her clothes back on. Don't worry I'll move the deer over a bit once it's fired up.

Between the first pic and the second, I was scared for a second. A deer head appeared out of nowhere!

Thanks! Minimum clearance to the side of that stove is 4". There's actually 5.5" to the wall but it looks really close in the pic.

 

Very nice deer!Very nice stove!Be aware because of close clearances materials decay,wall will be fine but others will degrade in 2-3 years(sofa?).Hope you save as much money as I do!

 

Those clearances should be fine. The stove is sheet metal wrapped in cast iron… unless you have the thing cranked to #4 or better the outside temps should be 130F or so. That's what my old Greenfield showed when running.

 

Good info sir,but the sofa/whatever looks bad in the pic.Long term/collective heat could be scary?But i do not know that stove,I am erring on the safe side.

 

Thanks for the concern bob. We have a little room to move that sofa further away if the heat seems too much. It's actually 7" away right now. There is a large air gap between the firebox area and the cast iron sides so hopefully the side heat won't be too bad.

 

So let's get a full report on your new stove...

 

If you follow the manufacturers specs on clearances you should be more than good to go. If you have any true concerns you can always call the customer support line but they design those clearances around anything combustible and they include EVERYTHING. It isn't exactly easy for them to get a UL listing etc. for safety purposes.

Wish i had a report other than it being used as an end table for now. Still waiting on one length of pipe . Can't get through the roof without it.

That's what i was thinking. I didn't really want the stove next to the couch but the way these two rooms are setup it was kind of my only option. Once she's up and running i'll know for sure just how hot the sides will get. Installation manual has the minimum clearances at 4" on the sides. Heck, the guy i bought the stove from had his couch almost touching it . Im not tryin to get that close haha.

It's a St Croix. That handle looking thing in the first pic is actually the ignitor wire. She didn't have any panels on in that pic.

 

What model Croix? I love mine has the cast iron and look of the old school wood stoves!!
