image.jpg Thought I'd share a glimpse of what I've been up too this morning. This is one section of a 28" diameter log that I'm working. I figure each section (I cut them 14" long) is about 250 lbs. The splitter handles the sections pretty easily. The loader is invaluable with these kinds of rounds.

You're right about the splits. I got a lot of great splits out of that log. Some of the nicest I've had in some time.

Finished out the day with some splitting by hand. It was a great day here today, about 25 degrees, sunny, clear and bright with no wind. Perfect!!

Good looking stuff, those big rounds rounds will produce alot of splits for you
And nothing like having the helping hand of a loader, no sore backs for you

Wow Dascro. It is good you have the tractor for those logs. Cherry around here does not get that big.

The woods in this area is predominantly black cherry. Hickory is a distant second followed by locust with a smattering of oak, beech, and some paper birch. The cherry I was splitting today was one of the largest we have, but it was standing dead in the pasture and had to come down. I enjoy working with cherry, it splits easy, smells great when splitting and burning and makes some decent BTU's.

As of late though I've been burning a lot of hickory, speaking of making BTU's.

Gotta love having a tractor around! IMHO it is the most useful tool that I own.
