Merry Christmas. We did get breakfast cooked so while we were eating a strong gust of wind came up, next thing we see is a dead Pine come down across a trail I just cleared I'll wait until this wind calms down before I take any pics or remove it.
Merry Christmas! Mother Nature doesn't even take a holiday off! Looks like pleasant weather to cut in for the near future once this wind backs off. We're gusting here, every once and awhile, but not too bad.
Western Pa near the Ohio border. Many members get the storms after I do. My power was out for several hours. The wind is still kicking this morning.
Well Seasoned jetjr , I won't be doing any clearing of trails until tomorrow, the first thing I'll check is the snowmobile trail that comes through our property. It looks like some colder weather will move in for the end of December or the beginning of January so we'll push in some Beech this week. I'm thinking about pushing in some American Hophornbeam (Ironwood) just for some overnight burns once the colder weather hits. Because of the wind gust, we're running the Pellet stove until the winds calm down.
Poured rain here all day yesterday and the temp went up to 46 overnight. About three this a.m. the wind hammered through here. Luckily only a few small branches down and the power never waivered. Strong west wind blowing now with cloudy skies. Supposed to be down to 0 by sunday night. We had about 8" of snow before all of this, now there is about 3 in the bush which will turn to concrete when the temp dumps...................
This was the Christmas Day breakfast, the link is for the recipe, make sure you have some Maple Syrup. The best part is what's on the bottom of these once you flip them on your plate. http://www.cooks.com/recipe/984150qf/company-french-toast.html
I hauled my Dutch Oven out of storage tonight, I'll clean it up some an season it so maybe we can cook in it for the new year. I should be starting on it tomorrow.
Lodge still makes decent ones for new. Not sure what part of the state your in but there's a flea market on 30 that has some here and there usually too.
Thanks, I'll look into them! I'm around the Lehigh valley, but will be heading out to Lancaster/Amish Country next weekend and I'm sure they'll have something good.
Yea should be able to pick up something. Never been out that way but I remember a punk or ska band from out there in the late 90s. Can't remember the name but I liked them.
I cleaned it tonight then put it in the oven on 350 for 15 minutes to dry out, I'll season it tomorrow night. We'll be cooking Pot Roast on January 1, 2015 on the wood stove.
Will do, here's some pictures of before and after. I used 1/4 cup of veggie oil with some coarse salt....scrub away. After I did the top (was the worst) and the oven I washed it in some water again an put in the oven to dry it on 350. I was hoping the top would come out better but it's still not that bad.
Nice! Can the lid get flipped so you can lay hot coals on top as well? (Some are flippable) Thats going to be great cooking to start off the new year!
I'm not sure if it can be flipped. I had read an article on the net that said you could just build a hot fire and then just throw the lid in the coals, once it turns gray, all the rust will be gone, is this true and would it hurt the top? I would do this outside.
Well Seasoned , we won't be having a ten pound roast but this sounds good. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/dutch-oven-confederate-pot-roast-recipe.html
