Colder here. What's your temp? What ya burnin?

The time of the warmer weather is slowly going away, woke up to 28 deg outside this morning.
It was nice while it lasted, I bet I saved plenty of splits going in the firebox last week with the warm spell
we got. I was also able to get the stove and the cat cleaned this week and I'm ready for the next cold stretch.

 

We are up and down. 30s to 40s at night. Some days cold. 65 today. Was colder in November. Can't figure it.

I'm at just over a cord of mixed pine and cedar so far this season. No other heat used so far.

 

Got a little carried away today considering it was 60 outside. Have some maple in the stove and my goodness it's hot in here.. Contemplating opening up the sliding glass door for some cooler air..

 

We're still in the low 40's so we'll have a small fire tonight, it seems about two small fires a day will do the job.

 

Yup. Not burning much wood here. The boiler is functioning well for it being so warm. We had to crack a window in the middle of the day the last two days on the first floor.

 

I checked the temp after I made my post, we're at 49 degrees, it's actually warmer tonight then it was today.

 

6c=42f and elm in the stove. Was just snooping the long range and only see a few days in the minus double digit celsius range? I know it will change but sure looks like the rest of the winter is gonna be mildish.

 

41 here and the boiler has Ash and Pine in it. But it is not running much at all. Sure is different from last year so far.

 

We're sitting at 41 just like old Gasifier , the wind and the rain have stopped so it's almost time for some stacking,hauling some Maple out and some stump removal.

 

Here too. Put a little elm and oak in for the night, then some BIG elm chunks before I left for work this morning. Wifey finally has a day off, and she likes it warm. It was shut down and still rolling when I left, and warmer than 83 in the living room, according to the Galileo thermometer.

Been mid 30's nights to low 50's days here lately. A half dozen oak and cherry lumber cutoffs and 15 lbs of coal makes for an 18 hour burn or longer. Dec. has been way easier on the wood pile than Nov. was !

 

Burned two small dry ash splits from my stacks, along with a piece of 20% moisture sugar...and the first floor went up to 78 degrees......way too hot for me. But, I'm Scottish by descent so I have a hard time "wasting" the heat. Just let the fire burn down, and took my time about closing the sliding glass door when going in and out yesterday. It's 72 in here now...much more comfortable. Going out shortly to stack some more of the piled, split wood, before the deep freeze followed by snow that is predicted for this week. We never got the rain predicted, although it has been constantly cloudy and quite humid (as in 98% at times), so who knows whether we'll get any snow to speak of.

 

Daytime highs are in the high 40s to low 50s, overnight lows are in the upper 30s. I'm still burnig shoulder season chunks & uglies. Can't pack too much in the stove but I don't need to. At this rate I won't have any shoulder season stuff for spring.

I'd like to believe that but for as far south as the jet stream dips on the last couple blasts, I think we are in for some serious cold.

 

I never in my life thought coal would be the answer to low heat during warmer temps . I discovered 2 winters ago that a load of coal and a couple chunks of wood with a forced draft system is awesome ! Looooooooooooooooonng burn time too.

 

My downstairs stove is multi-fuel. I burn either wood or coal in it. Wood when I need quick, hot fires to warm up a cold house. Coal when I need a long, steady burn if I'm away for the weekend. If I turn it all the way down it will burn for 48 hours and keep the house above 60 degrees for the weekend. When we get the occasional cold blast it will keep the house in the 70s for 12 hours at a time. During those cold blasts I usually burn both stoves gently rather than push either hard.
