While my wife napped yesterday I finished out some splitting and stacking of some ash and elm (second stack from the right).

Keep trying my hand at cribbing at least one end of my stacks. The stacks on each end is 15/16 wood with the others 16/17.

Thanks. Not endless stacks like some have but I only have to burn 2 cords a year to heat our little house.

I see now what you are talking about. To the right is the end of my FIL's log splitter. I havent used it for over a year. Still enjoy the workout I get doing it manually. However I have a lot if elm waiting to meet it. Ive split a lot of the smaller elm but Im will let hydraulics do the big stuff.

Smaller stuff..medium to hard. Had worse (cottonwood) but it still is a workout!

People laugh but I enjoy splitting wood by hand... Big elm isn't any fun though. Lol. Looks good!

Good job, schlot. It doesn't much matter what day you work the firewood, does it - holiday, weekend or whatever? You can still stand back and ponder the stacks with pride & satisfaction. Job well done! Nice looking collection there BTW.

Nice work, no matter what day it is. I thought of going out and getting some exercise in the yard yesterday too, then I got caught....she said no. Your stacks look great! I see in your pic the tough angle of the winter sun.

On good straight grained pieces I can split faster by hand than I can with a splitter. Only thing is the splitter doesn't get tired.

I agree. When my buddy and I sold firewood, he used the splitter. I used a monster maul. I could do a cord an hour for two hours. After that I was done. The splitter would do just over a half cord and hour but it maintained that all day long... That was before I had the fiskars so... Lol. Naturally I picked the straight grained easy stuff to split by hand. Left all the elm and crotches for the splitter
