I got my concealed carry permit shortly after the Wisconsin legislature passed the CC law in 2011 (?). Now there are over 250,000 permitted CC license holders in the state. My carry gun is a small frame Ruger LCP 380. I have a CZ 82 9mm Makarov that I have in my personal vehicle.
I'm not new to firearms at all. My Dad trained all three of us when we were kids and he did a great job. Safety lessons were instilled and strictly adhered to. I'm good there. Just haven't shot in many decades so very rusty. Got accepted to the same club that my Father was a member at when I was a little kid. Had planned on going to the club today to shoot but didn't make it over. Maybe during the week. Will try to have my brother take some pics. We've got a half dozen handguns to shoot but I've only cleaned two of them so far. Guess I should get the brother to do some of them. P.S. please don't get my thread nuked. Thanks you guys!
Times have sure changed… I attended a Catholic boys summer camp in '58-'59. We had a mandatory firearms course with marksmanship awards for prowness with a .22 semi-auto rifle. I still have my "Pro-Marksman" medal….
Thats great to hear that about your dad raising you up right with firearms. If I ever have kids you can be certain they will be brought up the right way with firearms. And Were tryitrying not to gwget this nukedO
All is well guys! No problem freely talking about guns and such, so long as the political bs stays out, which we can manage...
If you're serious about CC I'd suggest reading Andrew Branca's book Law of Self Defense 2nd ed. - he's a MA attorney and the book is very in depth about how to handle yourself should you ever have to use your weapon. Fortunately they clarified the law down here and can now legally open carry without a permit - concealment or having a loaded weapon in the vehicle requires a permit which is easy Sheriff just has to lay eyes on you and thumbs up. Now you can't be busted for printing and what not - I keep my SR9C in the waistband
No problem there everyone seems to be trying real hard to keep everything on the up and up. I love the SR9C its my daily carry gun.
I'm debating on a PMR30 - if I could ever actually hold one.\ My neighbor swears by his S&W 38 hammerless ultralite - it is probably the nicest pocket wheel gun but is hefty on the price tag
I havent seen those before looks like a nice gun. Ive found that everybody swears by what they carry and will tell you that you have to get that but I believe that whats good for one guy isnt necessarily good for another. You have to go through and hold and shoot if at all possible before you find the one thats best for you.
Yes indeed one had better. I was just saying that what is the best for one guy isnt necessarily good for another. Like say a colt 45 is great for a person with bigger hands but someone with smaller hands would be better off with a smaller frame gun but the guy with the 45 (if hes like all the ones I know) is going to tell the smaller guy that he has to carry a 45 thats the only thing worth having anything else is just a waste. I tend to disagree and believe that a person needs to try on several guns until they find the one that fits them.
I did my concealed carry training for my Ohio permit with a compact Sig 45, although I used to mostly carry a Kel-Tec 380. I've sold both of those about a year ago and have settled on 9s and 40s as my calibers of choice. I still like Kel-Tecs, as well as Kahrs and Glocks, although I have been known to sling 44s at deer sometimes with a ported Bull. That's about all I care to say on the subject .
Here's my home defense weapon… former Czech M/P CZ82 9mm Makarov (9X18)… very nice handling weapon. It has a painted frame… kinda thinking it's power coated… smooth finish. Polygonal rifling like a Glock. The thing I really liked about it was the price… $199.oo with two mags and a high quality holster.
It's just what is in the mags… I have hollow points in stock, too. We could discuss the drawbacks to FMJ's forever but I guess I'm safer with two magazines of those within reach than nothin'….
I'm with you now on the JHP's didn't see 9x18 - just glanced by the 9mm. That Makarov is a bit harder to find in specialty HD loads I'd asume
