Still working on this 272XP but am getting frustrated. I ordered the replacement tank which has a hole in it for the tank vent however the hole isn't threaded and the vent is. So I ordered a new tank vent off the same part tree I ordered the tank well the vent got here and it is threaded just like the old one.

Am I missing something here? Am I supposed to tap the tank? I am really close to just epoxying the vent in place at this point. Anyone have any experience with these vents and how they are installed? I have spent hours searching for info on them or trying to find a different part number with no success.

Was the old tank threaded to accept the breather?

The old tank was threaded (it was a cast tank) however I ordered this tank vent off the parts break down that I ordered the new plastic tank off of so theoretically they should go together. I have looked back through the parts break down for older and newer years and they all show the same tank vent. I am wondering if the tank never got tapped like it should have or thinking maybe there is some compression tank vent that it needs?

My buddy up the road from me has a 272XP, so hang tight and I'll take a peek at his this week. It's likely that he has the original cast tank however...

Is the vent metal in this case? Could be like may said. Like the stihl handles jade self tapping screws that screw in to holdth wrap handle in, yet those screws definitely look self tapping.

I appreciate the offer but it's a pain to get to the tank vent on the 272. You basically have to disassemble and remove the tank so don't feel like you need to do that.

I wondered that also but the threads on the vent definitely don't seem to be self tapping. I did try it with no luck.

The screws for my handles are self tapping and I was wondering if they sold a vent that was that way but I can't find one.
