In 78 we lived near Gaylord, MI. That is the year we were buried in snow and decided to just park the car barely into the driveway rather than shove it all around. As we finished (my 2 sons and I) I told them now the snow banks are so high even blowing snow won't plug this thing up again. However, less than 2 weeks later, guess what happened? I think it was something like 33" of albino rain fell. So much for not plugging...

I also remember a big storm 1/26/1967 and another in March, I think, in 1971. Measured in feet rather than inches. Still, it really did not take that long to get everyone out and about. But in 67, for the next 2 years people were saying they'd heard we were to get a bigger storm that winter. Not sure where they go it but we didn't get much snow those next 2 years. Still, I'll never forget in 67 having to go outdoors, but could not open the door. Once I was able to get out I could shovel a path to the door. In 78, we sold our home in March. The people who bought wanted to know if there was any propane in the tank. Yes there was because we had a water heater and cooking stove that took propane. I had to send my oldest son out to shovel down to the tank and see how much was left. Then after they moved in, we were told that every time they came home from town their 2 dogs would be sitting on the peak of the roof of the house. All they had to do was walk up the snow! Yes, it got a bit deep that year.

I'd rather have some snow instead of the rain/wind, we'll push enough wood in over the weekend so we're set for a bit.

I better burn more of the downed stuff this weekend from last years ice storm.

Our plan for cooking Christmas dinner if we lose power will be the gas grill, so I'll fill the propane tank this weekend, prime rib will be served.

I'll be making my way down to this area after the storm, this is the county snowmobile trail that comes through our property so I try to keep it clear for them.

They have a trail crew but if I take care of this they can clear other parts.

The GFS weather model is saying that this coming storm will produce rain for most everyone in it's path with colder air to follow. They're also calling for sub-zero temps for us on 1/2. They're not always accurate with temps this far out, but they seem to be pretty good at predicting trends. Either way, I'm counting on frigid temps after the first.

Our current forcast is for heavy rain and high winds for Christmas Eve. That is when we have our family get together. Got to be able to get the wife in and out of the car and over to the daughters house. Not easy when you consider I have all I can do to stay upright myself!

    From Accuweather,
According to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Henry Margusity, "We are concerned about rapidly melting snow, combined with heavy rain leading to a stream and river flooding situation in northern New England."

most common causes of flight delays is strong winds, especially where they blow perpendicular to runways.

Gusty winds blowing from the south and east may lead to flight delays in the mid-Atlantic, New England and eastern Great Lakes region Tuesday night and Wednesday.

The strongest winds are likely in New England Wednesday into Wednesday night, when gusts could reach 60 mph along the coast and over mountains across the interior. Gusts could approach 50 mph around New York City Wednesday into Wednesday evening.

Methinks it is going to be a green Christmas for us this year. Don't remember when the last one was.

It is going to be white, brown, and wet and very windy here. I still have ice on the paved driveway.

I thought we had one within the last 5 years, but I don't remember which year it was. They're pretty rare.

After 31" of snow during the week of November 17, I must say that I'm enjoying the lack of snow and cold.

Well ain't this interesting, looked out and nada, looked a bit later and snowballs were falling, the weather service has issued a special weather statement, heavy snow for an hour or two along with freezing rain and rain.

I look at the interactive radar and within a mile from here we have all three conditions.

Snowing here, everthing is as white as my beard. But, the forcast is for warmer temps and really big rain. I'll stay inside and wrap gifts. Ugh!

Right where I want to be.
Yep, we got a little snow last night, and now it's sort of a light rain/snow mix.
Warmer temps and the same forecast for most of the week.

In other news freezing rain advisories have been posted for just north of the county line for tonight and into tomorrow morning. Coastal flood advisory has been posted for this county.

Now which way are the seagulls lining up. Oh and our son made it out of the DC area shortly after freezing rain advisories went up.

Slight chance of a white Christmas here.
