Here is the background; my GF goes to visit her mother who lives with my GF's sister in Tenn. twice a year. They live in the same house, there is an in-law suite. Her mom does all the gardening, they have 10 acres. They don't have a chainsaw but need one. The GF would use it when she was there; she bangs out a honey do list while there, and the son-in-law would use it between times. Son-in-law is the can't change the oil type. So simple, small, good warranty are priorities. True occasional use. I bought my GF a 2245 a couple years ago used off CL, she loves it but I am here for maintenance. Thoughts?

Get a 545 or 2252. It will have autotune and you won't have to worry about the tune. There should be a real husky dealer near them if there was a problem. A 241 would be the other choice but $150 higher than those 2.

    I'd say go for a dealer-purchased Echo. Can't beat a 5 year consumer warranty.

MS 880! That would probably be a good way to keep it out of the no oil changer's hands.

I own a 241, but my business bought the saw and it is used daily and lives in a truck box. In this case the price is far to high to justify the amount of use the saw will receive. Problems are most likely going to be due to lack of use than use.

I'll second this. And a couple extra loops of chain too.

I have the CS400 on the list for that reason. I think dealer purchased is preferable for any brand.

Check with Terry on a new 545. He's in Tn right out of Knoxville. I think they're in the $400 range

Anyone have a CS400 that wants to weigh in on it? I have never held one.

A buddy has one. Not a bad little saw, but its built like a tank. It Feels heavier than my 550xp just by feel, I haven't used it, but jay has cut some chit down with it that I wouldn't have attempted with a much larger saw.

How large of tress will this be used for? For occasional use, I think a CS400 or MS250 seems like a good choice. Anything semi-pro like is probably overkill. For trimming limbs and cutting small trees a MS180 isn't a bad saw.

I like the idea of long warranties from Echo, and the ability to extend to 4 years with Husqvarna and Jonsered.

Yeah, I have a 50cc outright max on this. The GF ran my 036 a little bit on Sunday; just because, and it was a bit much for her.

Hey, mdavlee does tlandrum have the ability where he could price a package of saw, extra chains, premix for warranty extension, PPE because that is what this would need to be? Need as few steps as possible due to BIL being the purchaser. I think I was on his website the other day, I guess I need to look again.
