Here's a few pics from work that I had on my phone: More fire: road building There are always invasive species that need control work: a hot snag that had to come down: Open field tree planting: Assessing forest health. This tree is infested with white pine adelgid: Checking up on the loggers:
Forest engineers are mainly found on the west coast where skyline logging is prevalent. They do lay out work on timber sales and do everything from haul road layout and design to deciding where to set up log decks and skid roads. I am a forest engineer in Virginia but my degree is actually in forestry and wildlife management, a lot of the west coast schools have a curriculum specifically for forestry engineering. My job in Virginia consists of a lot of preharvest planning, laying out road systems, stream crossings etc. I also do law enforcement to basically make sure that logging operations do not impact water quality. Most foresters have varying jobs where you are doing different things everyday. We even get to run chainsaws from time to time. I look forward to hearing from more forestry guys on here there has to be more than just 4 or 5 of us.
