I'd like to know more about what you, Hokie, and Clem do... As do others.. We all are here for a common reason. You few happen to work around that reason. So please, share...
I'd love to see pics and hear about it bro! Your on a wood burners forum we are all addicts to saws, people with chainsaws and big guns who live and work in the woods! ITS MOST OF OUR DREAMS!
I got stuff I can take pics of. Including some antiquated stuff around the office. I just have been busy lately with a few high profile sales and collecting checks and such for that and doing associated paperwork. Also setting up a fuel wood sale for one customer this week and showing the forester around there and looking at part of the 900+ acres associated with that.
Foresters will have different responsibilities depending on who they work for. A lot of industry foresters ( those who work for sawmills or paper mills) focus on wood procurement. Utility foresters may work in vegetation control and management. Government foresters may provide assistance to private landowners and do wildfire control. Consulting foresters work with private landowners to carry out timber sales and other management practices. I'm a land manager. I cruise timber, put together sales, work with loggers and timber buyers, do prescribed burns, maintain roads, and boundaries, implement wildlife management practices, as well as a lot of routine stuff. I also do forest education programs. Hope this sheds a little light on the mysterious world of foresters without boring anyone or derailing the thread too far.
Thats a good start. Hey Dex can you make us a new thread with that as the start for it? I will chime in as well at some point.
If all goes well, I'll join the club in 2 years. I start the professional program at UGA for a forestry degree next semester
Hey, you beat me to it, disregard my post above I'd definitely be interested in a thread about what you do! I was at orientation this week and one of the admins of the forestry dept at UGA mentioned that all printing was free there since that's job security for them
Yup. I'm a Hokie too. [/QUOTE] Good friend of mine is getting his doctorate there. Not sure the program, but he works with the wineries up in N Va on ph and things like that. Needless to say he's a sharp dude and you guys are as well..
