Trying to make some beef bone broth on the Summit tonight. It is the first time for us making bone broth or soup stock. We'll see how it turns out.
Ok, here we go. To many bones for one pot, so we have two of them going for now, I hope to combine them later.
I glanced at the thread, saw the word "devil" and thought this was your post, but I couldn't remember you saying you had installed a stove.
Yeah, two devils. Look out. About two hours on the stove top, it has a good simmer going now and some scum on top.
I'm a big fan of stock from bird carcasses. I add a few carrots, celery and onion to the pot. It makes the best base for soups, stews and pot pies. I bet it smells real good in there. Welcome to FHC. Good start on pics.
We have several chicken backs and necks to do next. I used some onions, garlic, and peppercorns in this batch.
So, after a little pause to clean up a mess, ie....tried to fill it too full and after the heat got turned up a little it boiled over. Hot grease and water all over the top and down the front, not fun. We strained the solids out and let it cool in the basement for a couple of days, then lifted the fat off of the top. I am heating it back up now to can it.
