Any ideas on cool store bought or better yet homemade. I have seen them used on youtube. Look like they would be handy

Also known as a "hookaroon", it's one of the most useful tools for working with forest products. Got one 5 yrs back (LogRite 3') and don't leave home with a saw, without it. Keeps your hands out of harm's way. Makes your arm 3' longer. Great for plucking pieces out of ice/snow.

Great back-scratcher. Just not too good for picking your nose. See http://www.logrite.com/store/Category/hookaroons for their hookaroons.
LogRite's have high-stength aluminum handle/shaft. After 5 yrs mine is minus just a bit of blue powder-coat. Some prefer ash handle with hook hafted on; you'll find same on Northern Tool & elsewhere. Last I heard, Peavey Co. will custom make one for you. Say you want a 6' handle? No problem.

Made mine basically like bogydave made his. Only used a wooden handle with a piece of pipe where the bolt is.

Welcome markr. They are an infinitely handy back saver. Search this forum (or just scroll down). There are several pickaroon threads that you can read up on.

The stihl one seems nice, I've got a head from a local outfit that makes ten that needs to get a handle hung. There was a thread here about some real nice handmade Pickaroons, can't remember what the company is called?

Wanna guess who makes a whole bunch of such "Stihl" tools? The ladies at LogRite. (Only male in the Co. is the engineer/owner.) Check out their forum on ForestryForum. I prefer their blue powder-coat to the orange-kool-ade that Stihl has them apply, lots classier and harder to lose in leaf-cover.
