These two hooligans finally decided to chill for a bit, so I snuck a pic. Mom's on the left. You hafta' guess where the son is. VERY surprising they let me do this w/o getting up to see what I was up to. They tend to follow "dad" wherever he goes. Completely forgot I shouldda put this in the "pet" thread. Feel free to move it mods.
Pampered pooches prolifically patrol property precisely promoting protection protocols. They keep an eye on stuff. Real sweethearts unless you invade our space.
Lovin it...........................a pair of fine lookin' pups. You can see the little wheels going around...
That's cute! I'm waiting for my Golden to get old enough to sit still like that. The ONLY time now that he's not a complete spaz is in the morning when my alarm goes off. Suddenly he wants to jump in bed and be all sweet when he knows its time for me to leave for work!
Mom is 4 and son is about 3.5. They still LOVE to go out and run in the woods. When the weather's nice, we play fetch (they play go get the ball and bring it back to dad......I just throw it). They come back in the house, get a drink, and crash for a while. It takes over 2 years for Labs and Goldens to "mature".
Yeah, my last Golden didn't mature until he was almost 3. This one is 18 months now, and just starting to show hints of slowing down. His thing is frisbee, and I've thrown for 90 minutes straight with him and he barely slowed down, and after a 10 minute break wanted to go after it again! I've only seen him crash 3 times so far. First time was a weekend at a lake house playing and swimming for 2 days with four 5-year old girls. The other times was when I took him on 5-6 mile hikes and let him off the leash, so he probably "hiked" 10-12 miles!
Billy Bob is some mix of black lab and what? but he is still a spaz everyday I came home, and any day when I just go to the store for a couple hours...and he's almost 8 I guess it's good that he stays active running the woods all day long, but he becomes a PITA when his internal "treat time" rolls around ~4-6pm. He's probably got me trained
Oh yeah, just because they "mature", doesn't mean they aren't spaz monkeys. If I go out the door for the mail, the return is like I've been gone for a year, except they remember who I am. I think.
I have a yellow lab that is going to turn 8 in June. She never has shown a sign of slowing down. Guess when I went to pick her out of the litter and her mom was still crazy at 6 I should of known I would be in for trouble. Most dogs the minute they get out side for a potty break pee with in a minute. Not my girl. She takes a good 7-10 minutes and that is if she will pick up her nose long enough to realize why we are outside. But I wouldn't give her up for the world.
I have had 5 breeds (including mutts) over the years, I recall the around the age of 2 there was always a magical transition.
