A like new 555 for $350 is a heck of a deal. Mine for work was just under $500 and that was a steal.

That's not a crack head saw. They don't steal chit that nice. I've found they mostly deal with sub $100 pro grade stihls. Clearly that 550xp was stolen by a pill popper looking for their next dose. Real truth. Probably should post a pic of the S/N.

Sadly, being from a rural area doesn't conflict with the pill-popping theory. Doesn't confirm it either, of course. *Sigh,* this is the sort of thing I don't have to worry about when buying old and broken stuff. I'll call a few local Husky dealers just to make sure they haven't had a saw go missing recently. I have enough information about the seller that he ought to be findable if that were necessary.

I was just joking about it being stolen...i wouldn't worry about it. Only idiots would post up a brand new saw on CL and tell a stranger where they live.

Pawns shops are where to buy stolen saws.

Be that as it may, it's nothing to mess around with. I just talked to the dealer closest to where I bought it, and they haven't had any thefts. Most of the dealers in the area aren't open yet, but in a little while I'll make a few more calls just to put myself at ease.

On a bright note, my sweet wife has returned to work this week and I'll be home alone. Before she left she made dozens of homemade gingerbread and chocolate chip cookies. My mom brought a glazed ham, cheesy taters, pinto beans, and buttermilk cornbread over yesterday. Dad us coming up today for a band of brothers marathon. Do I need to get hurt more often ?

The second dealer that I called ran the SN through Husky's database, and it hasn't been reported as stolen. Based on that, plus the fact that the saw was built in 2012, he thinks we're in the clear. Whew!

Yea we were both joking!! See the "chainsaw forum truths" thread.

I forget the number but one of them is that " any saw got for a deal on CL was stolen by a crackhead!! " haha

I honestly wouldnt have gone to all that trouble really. No body with any sense would not post a freshly stolen saw in the same area they stole it, on CL.
