Here is the finished table. I cut the lags and welded wheels on from my tool chest. The table I found free but I had to buy the top plate so less that $100 invested. And yes the wheel welds look like crap. I had to hold the wheels and tack them in place and while doing that the darn cat ran by ( seriously ) and freaked me out. He almost went up in a ball of flame......
I'll snap some pics of my setup later. its isn't movable because it weighs a ton and that's what my vice is mounted to. I don't want it rolling around...
Nice table Pete. It is good to have space and a roof overhead. I'm just starting out, but my worktable is more of a stand that an anvil I bought, was attached to. It is portable enough to bring outside. It is around 80 lbs. It is easy to clamp to. Quick jobs are done on a large maple round outside the basement. Welding spatter and sawdust like each other too much. Smoke would be an issue too. I just bought a basic mig welder about a month ago. I have a lot to learn, but it is a pretty good skill to acquire. Today, I chained my large anvil to it's base. I cut a link in the chain to make it the right size and closed and welded it back up. The angle grinder made it purdy. It is very tight to the base now. I have other small projects lined up, and I am always looking for more.
I have a nice 4x10x3/4" welding table, I'd love to be able to take a pic for your fellas, but it's under at least 8" of other chit! I have "OFSS" or open flat surface syndrome, it's a sad, horrible condition that forces me to clutter up any OFS in my shop immediately.
I see'd a neat table once. Permanent placement. Was probably 4'*6' had the vise mounted hood over it ect. What set it apart was a top that was expanded metal to let slag ect fall thru and a cone welded below the table top that funneled all the shtuf that fell thru into a wheeled trash tray that you could pull out to empty and the weld krap wasn't all over the floor. Power wired under table top for grinders wire brushes ect. And a double ground lead one permanent on the table and one loose for off table welding.
Nothing fancy; Miller 350lx Syncrowave and Miller Spectrum 875 Plasma Millermatic 250 MIG Self made bench with electric and lighting switches My welding table is the vice, floor, or car/truck I am working on
Oh yeah ................ also have a Miller Bobcat 250 (twin cylinder Kohler) Have to wait until tomorrow for a picture, as I just found out that I wont be leaving work until midnight tonight
Sorry no picture but I built a 4 X5 foot table for bigger projects but I also bought the HF portable welding table for small jobs so I dont have to clean off the big table all the time as it turns into a work bench plus you can set it up out side if needed. On sale for 59 dollars at times. http://www.harborfreight.com/welding/welding-accessories/adjustable-steel-welding-table-61369.html
I have the exact same problem! Oh and a welding table buried. It's really bad because I'm a high school shop teacher by trade so my home shop is packed and I have a whole other school shop to fill...
