Great video, hadn't seen that one yet. I've read a few books on NH logging back in the late 1800's-mid 1950's. Intrigued by the way of life as a logger back then. Cool stuff
I wonder how much of a PITA is was to get/keep a water supply, with enough capacity, to run a huge steam engine out in the woods like that. Plenty of wood fuel... but water? Pumps to fill the tank? How do you keep a storage tank of water from freezing? A train engine could have tanks near stations, but a woods op... unreal how they were able to make it all happen.
Snow melts! But still, there would definitely be times water would be needed. Most mills were built on the edge of lakes, ponds or rivers. No doubt that is where they got water. Can you imagine, unloading logs and taking on water at the same time?
Nice video Thats a lot of hard work going on there looks like they did most all of that by hand without the aid of machinery.
