Great pics Dave! Stacks look like they are holding up well... Looks cold... Daylight getting a little shorter these days?
Few clouds moving in I blinked & missed our peak daylight. I need the flash to take a picture of the sun at 1PM. LOL Actually, it's 38° , 30% chance of rain tonight,
LOL. True. Vehicle sun visor needed but only if driving south Then only for a few hours per day Many areas don't see the sun due to the mtns shadows in this area. I get just over 3 hours of sun, mtns shade it till about noon. Just a little north Fairbanks, they get a glow on the horizon, but sun don't pop up again till late January
Do the long dark days get to you, or is it no big deal up there? I think it would affect me a lot by Feb/Mar.
Yea they do. Gotta stay busy , make yourself go outside. & I think, take a vacation south & get some sun. I probably get a little short on here too, May joke about it but Cabin fever is real. March gets sunny & nice long days but still winter. Those who don't get outside much, have a tougher time. Vitamins & full spectrum lighting help. Mid Feb & I'm ready for Spring & need a vacation from my grumpy self. LOL
I know last winter up there was a mild one as far as cold and snow. I was surprised to read your posts. Always had thought Alaska was under 100' of snow during the winter with temps 100 below... What's typical where you are?
Other than the short days , normal (average) winter temps aren't so bad. Past 20 years, Dec & Jan we usually get a few weeks of below zero. Here's the average & records temp chart for my area:
Great pics as usual Dave, always love when you post your pictures. I feel for you, I don't know how you deal with the lack of daylight like that? I have a hard time in the winter here in New England, I couldn't imagine it in Alaska! I work 12 hour days so I go to work pretty early and it's completely dark and it's dark when I leave. I work in a shop without windows too so that doesn't help. The only thing I like about winter is burning wood!! I drive my wife nuts by turning ALL the lights on in the house constantly! The winter doesn't have the same affect on her....
