Saw this Charbroil Big Easy oil-less turkey fryer on sale at Lowes - read up online and it gets rave reviews. I have deep fried many a turkey(worn out one pot) this thing takes a little longer to cook but no preheating or waiting for cooldown. I will post updates this evening with cooked pictures and when the other accessories I bought yesterday I should be able to do an array of other foods besides just deep fried turkey(wings, legs, ribs, hams, roasts). First pic -Billy Bob inspecting the new setup getting ready to season it in Second pic - the victim Third pic - Char-Broil finally put some stainless where it matters
Good thing we can't taste or smell the results or I would be putting my 60 lbs back on. Looking forward to SEEing the results.
Just loaded it in. That is a homemade creole garlic butter injection. Rub down with Backyard Barbeque seasoning - found it locally less salty than Chachere's. I will post back with a finished product expected to take ~10min/lb this is 12lb bird, if temps are right ~2hrs
Your going to love that thing its the best $100 i ever spent!! I have cooked chicken. turkey, venison, lamb and beef in it I cant say enough good thing about it. I screwed up buying it though cause now everyone insists on coming to my house for thanksgiving dinner.
Well I always had to really fry turkeys wherever I went. This thing is sweet - no babysitting temp is one setting, I just keep going out on the porch to smell mmmmmmm.... Can't wait to get the rest of the accessories and try out ribs and wings. GF actually asked if I was going to give up on the BBQ smoker/grill(she was kind of adamant) ...I said of course I'll still grill just need to see how this does those other delicacies
I think it says "HOLDS UP TO 16lbs" in the manual. Might be a rating on the basket cause a larger bird would probably fit The 12-14lb is an ideal cooking size though. It's just me and the GF - and the dogs will get plenty when she isn't looking
It's done right at ~2hrs maybe 1:50 checked with 2 different thermometers showing 165+ all over. Will update later on flavor after my turkey nap
I ordered the extra accessories for wings, kebabs, and the upper level basket I havent used them yet its been way to hectic around here but I will use them soon. I cant say it enough this thing is great in my opinion its just as good if not better than the regular fried turkeys in that theres no oil to heat up and deal with when your done the meat always comes out moist and tender. It also uses very little propane.
Wow! That's an awesome looking turkey. If it tastes as good as it looks, then that system is a winner. Def safer than frying.
It should be In mine its always crispy Im sure Basod will update us soon after his turkey induced coma.
L-Tryptophan and the Turkey The turkey is often cited as the culprit in afterdinner lethargy, but the truth is that you could omit the bird altogether and still feel the effects of the feast. Turkey does contain L-tryptophan, an essential amino acid with a documented sleep inducing effect. L-tryptophan is used in the body to produce the B-vitamin, niacin. Tryptophan also can be metabolized into serotonin and melatonin, neurotransmitters that exert a calming effect and regulates sleep.
DB its a worthy investment indeed I bought on a whim figured if I didnt like it after the first bird Id take it back and raise hell but after we were done with dinner any thoughts of returning it were long gone.
