Went out to unload the trailer full of Oak, pulled up to another stack to reload the trailer with some more Oak. As I started pulling away after reloading, tractor just stopped. Took me a second, but once I looked underneath, I knew. Belt had cracks across the belt all the way around, and was hanging partly on the ground. Now, the tractor and trailer are sitting in the field while I figure out how to get the tractor back to the shed. The belt was replaced by a local place that sells 4 wheelers, sleds, and Stihls. Guess they're getting a call tomorrow. No pics, as I was a bit disgusted at the time.
I can get the Jeep back there, and tow it back to the shed. The trailer that needs to be used to take it to the shop is full of Oak, so that has to be emptied. The fun never stops.
Dave, does that guy still have the horses just to the east of town? I remember every winter he used to pull cars and trucks out of snowbanks or ditches. For sure he would be too old now but perhaps a son may have taken them over. Don't remember the name but I've been there several times....many, many moons ago.
Bummer. Hope it's not raining or snowing How old is the belt. ? Was it slipping , not tight enough, got hot & brittle from heavy loads? I didn't inspect the JD drive belt when I put it away, probably be good to have a spare hanging on the wall. Thing only break when you need them.
Way too tough for me to change. I tried once. It's not extremely old....pretty sure I had it changed earlier this year. I've used the tractor out in the woods pulling loads of wood in the small trailer. No, but she'll be driving the Jeep with me on the tractor.....wish me luck. This is just a garden tractor, so shouldn't be a big deal. I'll take care of it, but it'll need doing before we start getting a bunch of snow, as it's my plow machine.
Yea get it to the house today. Probably no one open today to get it fixed. Somehow , put it on the trailer to take it to the repair shop tomorrow.
Seeing the cracks running across the belt Looks like whoever replaced it last time just "found" a belt the right length and width and didn't take into consideration that it ran on an idler on the back side of the belt. When you have it changed next make sure they use a belt like a Gates power rated or blade runner that's designed to be used on lawn and garden equipment.
That totally sucks Dave! It will get . fixed and you'll look back and say it was all gooder, but for now, some cursing and a shot of whiskey is awesomer.
If I was still a drinker, it'd be rum and Coke......heavy on the rum.....or light on the Coke. Aaaand, you don't see the problem there? They don't call her "leadfoot" for nothing. Wait, this could be fun. Too late in the day, and they aren't open on Sunday.
Only you know if having the belt break now is better than in the middle of a big storm. The whiskey'll taste gooder anyway... Good luck gettin' belted...
We're waiting until tomorrow. The light of day will reveal all. It was starting to get dark-ish, and well, I didn't wanna'.
But, I've lived yet another day due to postponement. Would it be considered vehicular homicide if I got dragged to my demise?
