I don't think you'll have any problem getting it close enough so you can load pellets. That thing is probably made out of polyethylene, and has a much higher melting temp that what comes out of a pellet stove.

When it starts to droop, back it up a little. ;)

Thats entirely possible!! We don't have flooring yet so just screwing into the subfloor LOL. Going to try it! Closest on the back right where I stand to scoop pellets (or hubby dump pellet bags) and then configure from there. Will be interesting to leave enough room infront to open door and scrape pot etc. Yes, pics in a couple days :)

We have one of those digital things that measure surface temps. Good for many uses. You can ck the gate at different distances and determine what the risk factor is. However, you don't want it close enough to be tipped over and touch the stove, esp. the front of the stove. I like to put the pellet bags on a chair, slit the bottom side edge and have it pour out into two 5 gallon buckets. That way it is easier to lift and pour into the hopper. You only need fill the buckets with the amount you are comfortable with.
I take the pellets to the stove using a cheap folding hand cart. $25 lowes.

That is simalar to mine. You can ck the surface temp of the sides and front of the stove, the adjacent wall etc. also ck for spots where you might have insulation issues. My side wall on my napoleon were warm to touch. On this p68' they are too hot to touch.

Genious. I remember you said before about using a chair, (he sets an extra bag on a rubbermaid tote next to the baby gate) but I think I missed the slit on the bottom. Thanks Save!! Using a tupperware bowl in a giant hopper just really seems not very productive. Actually he just got some 3 gal buckets, might "borrow" them. :)

Cut the bag on the side seam at the bottom with a box cutter. I try to make two slits that make a V . It just pours out and down into the buckets. I save some of the bags for kitty litter. They don't break open like a garbage bag can.

 Larry don't tempt me! I am ready for a kitty..... The lil one is still pretty rough with the Wirehaired Viszla (who loves every second of it), but I worry a kitten may retaliate to protect itself and turn her off? The few cats she has been with in other peoples homes she was guided/supervised every second and that will not happen if we have one live in our house. Any suggestions on a good age for a tot to be gentle with a cat? She is almost 3.5 y/o.

If you make things any easier for me to care for a cat, my husband loves them.....I thought the legs on our longtime cat would fall off because he carried him everywhere :)

    Hi Bob!

Hmm. Stove works well on speed 1-4, keeps me warm. I do not run it on speed 5 or 6. Scraping pot almost every day (hoping thats the new pellets) and that it will get less frequent when I we get down the stack to the old pellets.

Hi.I think you have a botom feeder, and scraping the pot once a day would be considered normal. With a harman you can scrape the pot when it is running. As this accentra is the first bottom unit I have owned,I have purposedly abused it(as I fix units on the side) and I can go 3 days before scraping the pot,but the heat output really drops down low.As you have never owned a top feeder, you would not know that you "have to" clean the pot every day, unless it is a corn stove with a adgitator/shaker grate system.45 seconds to open door and scrape pot is not a big deal. Not being able to run at ful blast is a concerne,as your install is almost ideal, but I have seen they may drop that stove design,so there may have been too many concerns to continue that unit. But even though, your unit puts out more heat than most units built, and comes from a good company.Stoves are made that you do not have to touch the burn pot for a period of time, but they usually are multifuel stoves. If I can help,I shall.Bob

I would still follow the stove manufacturer recommended clearances on how far away to keep that gate. You should be fine if you can maintain that distance.
I known you want it for peace of mind, but my now 3.5 year old daughter grew up with the stove there with no gate. She seemed to catch on very quick that I was serious about not going near it.
Also, those infrared thermometers are good for general temperature taking, but really need to reflect off the correct color to be real accurate. Normally darker is better.

We had grand kids here with cats. Never an issue. We did have one mean cat. They gave that one all the room she needed. I would go for a cat that was at least 0r four months old. To keep the dog out of the food, I took a medium size wire kennel and cut a space wide enough for the cat. The dogs can't fit their head through that opening.
The kitty box can be put in a plastic tote with a hole in the lid. Dog can't get at it, but the cat can. Go on you tube and you can find that idea done there.

I am an idiot. Learned the new infrared, measured temp distances. Rounded up drill, phillips bit.... :lol:The stove is on a 5' x 5' porcelain hearth! LOL, not screwing through that :)

With infrared you need to be aware of how far away you are measuring. or you may end up measuring the temp of all sorts of unintended things.
And screwing through porcelain would not be easy. I most likely would destroy it in the process lol.
