Anyone have one of these? For 999 - 10% at lowes they seem hard to beat. I'm just curious if the wheel position gets in the way when using horizontally. I'm planning on building one but it just isn't going to happen for a while.

Thanks, I think they are identical except a larger piston.

The pump may be different (higher GPM) as well, but I haven't looked at the spec sheet on either of them.

I recently looked at it at HD. They look to be very well built, however I do NOT like the wheel placement at all. If you stand next to as you would while working Horiz, the wheels are dead smack in the way. In comparison, stand next to the Ariens HD also carries, it's like night and day. Having said that, the DHT unit looks to be built much stronger than the Ariens, and has a full beam which many folks prefer. But to me if you can't use it comfortably, then is it really better? Then lastly if you pick up the DHT by the tongue, it is very heavy and hard to move around in comparison. If you don't have to move your unit much, that's not an issue but it is a big issue for me.

    Good luck!

I ended up buying one today. There are extra holes to slide the beam farther back but I will probably add more to move it back farther. The Ariens is a bit better laid out but close to twice the cost. For the extra 700 bucks I'll change it up a bit to suite my needs. I would have preferred a horizontal only model but there are a lot less to choose from. It ended up being $900 plus an extra 5% from discover. As for moving it, that is what the kubota is for in my case.

no, the Ariens is 1600 and the dirty hands ended up being 900. The Ariens was close to twice as much as the dirty hands. To clarify I bought the dirty hands, not the Ariens.

My mistake, the 22 ton is 1200 at my home depot. The 27 ton is 1600.

I didn't want to post pictures of it sitting lonely in the garage. I'll put up some tomorrow once I get it into its native environment splitting some wood.

I have about ten hours on a DHT 27 ton, strong splitter well made. So far no complaints and then again I split almost everything vertical so there is nothing in the way, find a milk crate I read that some where or better yet a ice fishing bucket padded !!

Picture came out dark but you get the idea. I have to say, especially for being one of the least expensive splitters available, I give it a big thumbs up! My only complaint is junk getting stuck at the bottom of the foot and needing to be cleaned out once in a while. I'm glad I went for this 22 ton with a quick cycle time vs a larger tonnage one with slower cycle. Very rarely does it go into the slow mode so it is very quick. I need to fab up a nice big table for once side though.
Nice weather, chainsaws, splitters and kubotas. Does it get any better?

    Yea
When I got mine, wondered why it took so long to get one.
I get better sized splits & split faster than I did by hand.
I sit next to the pile of rounds with a pickaroon & can make a big pile of splits pretty fast . :)

    Have fun !
