Not at all. Occasionally we get one pop out and as I stated, I've even played around. The way I sit the pieces just go flying past me because when the wedge comes down, my legs are out of the way.
I've never put two pieces of wood on the splitter at the same time, and now I never will! I bet it could just explode out of the middle. Thanks for the great warning.
Well said. Also a reason not to split those short fat ones, stuff 'em right into the stove whole, if they fit through the door.

Of all the fatal accidents I've heard of over the years with people splitting wood, double ending was the main reason. Worst one was when a guy had his child helping and he ended hitting his son in the head. Just not worth the risk at ANY time. We are taking a time savings of seconds for results that will be there forever. Wider spread wedges and certain woods make it worse as far as popping goes and you just have to be aware of your position and what is happening. I try to keep my free hand between me and the wood if I'm in the line of fire. That way you can deflect it or at least be ready to divert the popper. When the splitter loads up as others have said, I back away and run the lever.
