Two nights ago had the perfect fire going with a nice bed of coals. Right before bed perfect stack for an all night burn. Three hours later wake to wife madder:mad: than Hades. Muttering to herself how hot it is in the house and in the bedroom. That her husband had gone crazy with this firewood addiction of his and proper way of burning wood.(she really didn't say it that nice) fan is found and turned on. crawls back in to bed. I quietly crawl out of bed unplug blower to fireplace open up draft and lay on top of bed. Fall back to sleep with a smile on my face.:) Big thank you to all.
Temperature in the bedroom 77 degrees. (I may have over done it)
Next morning made comment maybe you don't need flannel sheets and pajamas. o_OTotal eye roll on that one.
The wonderful life of burning wood.

Oh my yes.....many times. Just a week ago, we had a really cold night and I only had the stove in the front of the house lit. Wifey asked me to light the kitchen stove to take the chill off the back of the house (for the record, anything below 70° is a chill to her). I said "are you sure?", to which she exclaimed "YES!" So I scuttled some hot coals out of the front stove and took them to the kitchen stove and lit her off, loaded it up with an armful of red oak at bedtime and hit the hay......

Woke up to go deer hunting around 5:00am, the house was nearly 85°!!

Yes, tis grand being a woodburner. Especially when you are accustomed to burning 3 year seasoned oak.....lol

We usually set up to burner the same every night, only difference is how far we leave the bedroom door open.

My wife tends to complain when it's too cold in the house versus too hot.... She thinks I've gone off the deep end with my wood addiction, but that's been going on for years now so I don't pay much attention any longer. :dancer:

In basement where fireplace is it can be 75-80 degrees most of the time.Rarely gets below 65-70 even after fire is out.End up turning fireplace blower off when its over 40 outside cause it can be too hot some times.I don't burn when its over 50 or so outside,NG takes over. One of the furnace ducts in ceiling is just a few feet from the upper ones on brick fireplace wall so any extra heat is sucked in.For a late 70's unknown insert,it puts out an impressive amount of heat.

Keep at least 1 of the 2 French doors to this room & door at top of stairs open at all times except on the coldest days/nights,so the extra heat can go upstairs. Otherwise at night the 2 doors are shut to keep the heat in,the basement heats up pretty quickly when relighting every few days though.

Upstairs is usually 64 to 68 degrees, for sleeping I prefer it no more than that,I roast in summer without the AC or ceiling fans on.NG furnace provides most of the heat, but this really makes a difference what my heating bill would be otherwise.Someday I hope to get rid of the old NG furnace & install a combo NG/wood burning one in its place.

I put a data logger in our bedroom to track the nightly temps. It gets down to 55 degrees some nights. That's some good sleeping temps!
