Just watched a report on the Detroit news regarding Red Oak Wilt in Michigan. Asking folks with red oak on their property to not remove wood from their property for use as firewood? Any of you Michiganders have any additional info on this?
It looks like it hits red oak tree from April to July and the tree dies in about 2 weeks. They said it's similar to the borer and it spreads fast.
Yeah, the reporter was saying that it has already spread thru several counties and the fear is that it will be as wide spread as the borer in a quick time frame. Not good.
Ehhhhhhhh. Its bad enough the boogers are munchin on Ash trees.... But now the mighty oak ? Where does it stop ?
This is crazy. They have to figure something out fast otherwise it's gonna spread to all kinds of tree.
Bad news. Looking at a map of where it's shown up there isn't any in GA. Interstingly enough, we don't have any EAB down here either. I wonder if it's a climate thing or something?
Yes, we get regular reports from the DNR and I do remember posting about the oak wilt in MI. Just don't remember when. But I know from talking with loggers that we've had that problem here in MI for many, many years.
