I've had a pile of cherry and walnut sitting here since January of this year. And I finally had the time to finish it. I talked. Y wife Ito helping me yesterday and that was a big help. I cut up all the logs and she ran the splitter for a few hours. My daughter went out and helped a little but I think she more fun climbing around. I have a small little pile that didn't get split bc it got dark but it won't take me long. Then stack in the bins and move it out to dry.

It's great to get everyone involved. My son hates when my girls help, but it goes quicker.

Firewood work is a great family activity. Any grumbling at the beginning (if any) turns into everyone feeling great at the end. And the work makes it possible for everyone to have a job. Makin' heat while makin' memories...

Very true, my little one especially loves to help and often asks if we can go work on firewood.
I love the carport, cheap and works great.

Looks great. They will be proud of themselves for their part when they are warming their tootsies next to a cosy fire they helped to produce :campfire:

Indeed, I miss those days when my wife and I along with our 2 sons would spend an afternoon or sometimes the whole day putting up wood. It was funny though because sometimes my oldest son would balk because some log was too heavy. It was easy breaking him of that though. I'd just tell him that it was okay. His mother could get it! He soon was embarased enough so that he did his share of the work with no grumbling.

My son prides himself on being able to split faster than me. Give him his own splitting area, axe, logs and somewhere to put them and he's set for the day (the only thing that can drag him away from his PC). Strangely, I always lose a splitting comp ;)

For some reason he will never take on my challenge on who can dig the biggest area on our allotment. :loco:

(an allotment is an annually rented veg growing area separate from your house ownership. You rent in the region of 20 x 40 ft from the local authority for vegetable/fruit cultivation - just in case you didnt know :) )

Yes, for some odd reason, those type like to pick and choose what they want to do. It won't be long in life though before they learn that it is not always that way and soon they will have to do it all. Then they will understand; now they don't.

Well I got it all wrapped up, ended up with 3 skids of cherry (1 cord). 1 skid of walnut, and 1 skid of mixed shorts/uglies. And to round it out I have a small load of oak. Was still in log form in the last pic, but I got it bucked and split. That wraps up all the wood processing at my house. Now when I have time I can drop the two maples that are dying.

I love it when my little ones help me with the wood. My twins are 6 and my little is 3. They always ask me " dad do you like when we help you with the wood" I sure do..I take them to toys r us every time they help me and now all I hear is dad are we doing the wood today. They know they get rewarded when they help me ..
