Did a little scrounging today and took some pictures, got some oak and some really rotten birch(maybe?). And started a split/stack area along the forest line so I don't have to drag my freshly cut firewood all the way down to the house. Right now the unseasoned wood is split and stacked with a currogated tin roof right now, only top covered, with it being mostly red maple it should be ready by next year as I'll be pushing the tree line back. It's absolutely over run with red maple saplings.
Still without a tensioner unfortunately, since I work overnights by the time I get out of work the hardware store isn't open, and since I cut wood right up until I take my afternoon nap (1-7) the hardware store is closed for the night, I looked through all the screws I have and none match it, even tried one off of my craftsman saws and the threads are different.I do plan on hitting the store tomorrow though as I work 12 am to 9 am instead of 10 to 7, on a side note though all it needs is that part and I'll be using it as my go to saw, it runs great other than that little issue.
Used a trick my old man told me about and cut up a sapling into two and used that to get the wood off the ground. Hopefully I'll be more apt to get the wood under cover if it's closer to where I'm working.
I tossed a few splits in the stove and let the smoke out a bit, smells like cherry, very sweet aroma.
I've done that for a few years, and just started using treated landscape timbers last year or so under my field stacks. I use the whole sapling though. I wait until they go on sale before grabbing a few.
Should have said "used", as in past tense. I don't use saplings anymore, unless it's a small Spruce that needs to come down. The timbers last longer and are fairly cheap at $1.97 on sale. Don't confuzzle me. Takes too long to recover.
It all adds up Some pretty punky , spongey stuff some BUTs left but the moisture content won't get very low.
Actually burns like tissue paper as long as there's some coals in the fire. And this stack will grow a lot quicker when my projects get under way.
Haven't gone camping in a few years, but I did have a bonfire and probably tossed a few rotted limbs of the same tree in. There's more out there but it's down the stream bank and is probably rotted to dust.
