I think I mighta had a version of this the other night...fell asleep while waiting for the stove to get going after arriving home late at night. Woke up 2 hours later in "my chair" sweating, and cursing, that I'd just burned up a perfectly good load of elm. At least I didn't have to start entirely over with all the coals that were left, and I had the opposite problem (temp-wise) that PP did.

Sorry you " forgot" to fill the stove. Were you the only one home?
    Nail the bathroom window closed!
    Hope you are warm now.

Awake through the night here and my house hit 52 before I realized the chill in the air, my furnace doesn't turn on until 50f so I was close, a load of hemlock and pine and the chill is out of the house.

Pete, for an occupied dwelling, that's c-c-cold! Maybe you should have installed one of those stoves in the laundry room???for such an emergency???

This happens to me sometimes too, although not because the window's open! This week the house got down to 54 because we were away all day, and came home long enough to go to bed. Next morning woke up just in time to get out the door. Came home last night to a house in the 50s but since we were staying home it was time to crank up the fire, so it was in the 70s while we were watching Christmas movies. Since I don't want the gas to turn on at all that's just the price I pay.

I slept in the glider in front of the stoves. The stove room hits the 60's real fast...

kind of funny, I stayed out a little to late with some friends last night. when I woke up the wife looked at me kind of strange. I think it may be kind of cold in my house all day today.

Whoa 41 is chilly. I think the lowest my shack has gotten was 65 last winter during the ice storm. No power so my wife and kids went to my moms and I was working night shift 14+++ hours a night. I would come home load the stove sleep for a bit while the house warmed up load the stove again, go see wife and kids and shower.

Lucky that I get 20+ hour burns with full loads when temps in the 20°s.
14 hours since loaded last night, house 73° :)
