My wife and I cut a little more wood today and after I cut up one downed ash, I took a few pictures. We also heard an atv across the creek and thought it might be one guy I and a couple neighbors have had a few problems with. So I walked a ways to the creek and found even more downed wood. I did not see the guy but after I left with a load of wood my wife said he came out of the woods, got on the atv and went away from us. Good. We have not only dead ash but lots of dead elm too. Here is one with the top broken out. You can also see more downed stuff on the ground. Ash This is the top out of that one elm, in addition more of the same. Ash More ash Ash and elm by the creek. Notice how low the creek is.
Really nice to see that you and Judy got out in the woods Dennis. How do you get those trees to grow all horizontal like that? Don't they know that vertical is "the way"?
Thanks Dave. There surely are a bunch of horizontal trees. We'll try getting those before felling more.
Yes, that is our land. You are seeing only a very small part of it. That creek runs a little over 1/4 mile on our southern side. It is all wooded along the creek. Here are a couple pictures; one from Google Earth and the other taken from inside our house last winter.
Looks like you have gotten quite a bit of wood processed so far! Great job! It also looks like you have quite a few years worth of wood laying there and ready for cutting. Should make it nice to not have to drop trees for awhile.
41 and a bit of land here. One very nice part about it is we live on a dead end dirt road. That certainly cuts down on the traffic. Our road is just a tad over 1/4 mile and there are only 2 of us on the road.
Good to see you getting a little saw time in Dennis, Probably feels good to get out and cut a little ? not over doing it that is. Were them deer pics from the window or porch ?
Thanks Todd. Those pictures were taken through the sliding glass door that is between my computer and the wood stove. It does not bother the deer if we stand there and watch. Well, most times it doesn't but for some reason or another, occasionally they don't like it or maybe just a couple of them don't like it. In the summer, usually there are several I can get really close to. One day I was seeding a food plot. I was working on one end and they (5) were on the other. It did not seem to bother them. On the other hand, that same time one was laying just off where I was working. She watched me drive up with the atv and I made 3 rounds before she got up, stretched and moved about 20 yards before laying back down.
Very nice pics. You and judy had a busy day. Alot of gooder stuff pal. You got alot of land..very nice...
Thats pretty neat being able to watch them that close along with the stove and computer all at the same time
It is. Then there is mornings and evenings when I sit at the computer. I have to keep looking to my left as I can see a couple of runways from here. Nice!
Well Dave, sometimes yes and sometimes no but never as much as you get. Now when we lived north.....another story. I think last year we were around 90" which is very rare for us.
