Apparently we have it all wrong. I just read in a news article that wood split by June should be fine to burn this year. This was from a large firewood dealer as well.

Keep us posted on what you think about it please.. Years ago I had an evaporative console similar to that one but I didn't use the anti-bacteria additive and it got smelly but probably my fault.. I was considering what CR recommended but thought the Honeywell for around 100 bucks looked promising..

Some interesting reviews there.. One is really long and the guy has used it 3 years so pretty complete and funny too.. I have a Honeywell tower type humidifier that was my Dad's and it's been around for years and it still works.. Started making noise last year so I took it apart and managed to get a little oil in the motor bearings but it was a bear to get apart and it didn't go back together exactly as it came apart but it still works :) This one has a UV light to keep bacteria at bay and that works well and I do not add any bacterial additives..

And the price is right too.. You can also buy aftermarket filters for it.. This unit still has the original filter.. They are fragile but you can clean them albeit gently..

Technically he's right, it'll burn fine but will cause runaway creosote buildup.
Of course he's completely unbiased in that assessment...

What is runaway creosote buildup? Sounds scary.

That's what you get right before the chimney starts looking like a fireworks show. And sounding like a runaway train.
