    In my neck of the woods the KS state tree is a telephone pole and they get upset when you cut them down.

    ive often wondered that myself if what folks out there just call locust "hedge" as the tree is common along fencelines and such even here in VA

    Nope, that is Hedge. Actually Hedge was planted to be a fence line way back in the days. When allowed it would pretty much be impenetrable by human or cow.
