Just like me to bring home a half ton truck from work instead of a dump truck and dump trailer. My degenerative disc dieses has been giving me fits this past month but I woke up this morning with the intentions of killin some elms where I cut at. I love burning Elm but it sure do take a toll on a man when dealing with it iffn you don't know how to deal with the stuff. Wet, heavy, and hard to split. Sure do burn hot though. Worth the stretch as far as I am concerned.
Nice work there Butcher! That will be some great BTUs for ya after some drying time. Is that for next year or after that?
Yeah that's a sweet lookin' load, If it was me, I would have probably busted something up, bent the tailgate you know, by loading a pile right on that and ropin' it down
That looks just like my day Butcher, I like the way that american elm burns in my cat stove. I would pass on if'n it weren't for hydraulics.
Good days work ! Can you roll it off the truck right to the splitter ? Save some back work on the heavy stuff.
Elm that is still living???? Is that variety dutch elm disease resistant or has it not hit there? I can't think of any live elm in my area. DED wiped it all out years ago.
Big rounds you got there. Did you get it all or are you going back to get the rest? I hope your back is ok this morning after picking those suckers up..
Nice load of wood! When it is just me I take 2x6 ramps and roll the rounds up them to save on the lifting and help out my back.
At first I thought you were going to say bringing the truck was like bringing a knife to a gun fight. . After reading the post, I'd bet you are glad you didn't bring the dump truck and trailer. I could only imagine what filling a dump truck/trailer would do to you back. "My degenerative disc dieses has been giving me fits this past month" Nice looking load. Now that all of my logs have been cut and split, I'd love a load like that. Jason from RI
They get about that big and then start to die around here. Lots of elm around though. They seem to propagate themselves very easily. That be the whole tree sept for limbs 3 inches and smaller. Green rounds like that I like to leave till they freeze clear thru. Split gooder that way.
I hear ya on the disc problem, have it as well. If I over do it nerve gets pinched and left leg feels like all pins and needles. Sometimes not even lifting or any strenuous function sets it off. Just some type of movement that didn't sit well. Minor complaint compared to my weekend so far which started in the ER Thur. morning. next couple of weeks will supply information as to what I am dealing with. At present due to Holiday weekend in limbo. Sundays and Holidays always seem to be when I get blindsided.
