Good info at this link that may explain things: http://www.omega.com/prodinfo/infraredthermometer.html Ray
I have a Fluke just because it showed up on Craigslist near me; an HVAC instructor had used it in class as a teaching aid, and was changing to another line of work. At retail pricing it would be an extravagance, but it is a very nice tool.
A Fluke would be great to have but i cant afford to spend that much just to play with the wood stove and see how warm the dogs are. Sounds like you found a great deal there Jon.
I believe Fluke owns Raytek.. http://www.fluke.com/fluke/usen/about/companies/raytek-company-profile.htm Ray
I bought this one at Amazon as I wanted the ability to look at high heat temps, to use for my harley etc.. This one is excellent for under $20. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DMI632G/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
