Never saw an 880 before and let me tell you that is one heck of a saw! I couldn't even imagine lugging that bad boy around all day.......

Some day I want to run one of these things just say I did lol

:thumbs:That looks like a nice saw Certified106! I have been researching the larger Stihls for a bit now.

I think the weight would be too much for me to work for very long on many of them. And the prices are scary on the big ones. (Actually they are scary on all of them!:rofl: )

I am looking around and thinking of getting one that is bigger than my MS290 Farm Boss. At 56.5 cc, it weighs in at 13 lbs. for the power head. I use an 18" bar and chain on it.

I'm considering moving up to an MS461 R. At 76.5 cc it would weigh in at 15.2 lbs. And I would probably use a bar and chain that is 25". That would be plenty big enough for me.

My MS290 is big enough for most of what I cut.

Hey. Who knows. Maybe if you ask nicely, Santa will bring you one of those!:handshake:

I wanted an 084/088 for the longest time for a big stump saw, milling saw and just to say I had 12o something cc saw... let me tell you, after taking 3 smashed or melted saws and putting one together and then buying all NOS parts, I had well over 1100 bucks in it and it was pointless. I used it 4 times and sold it for 1K. My ported 660 does everything I needed it to. Other than bragging rights, or a dedicated mills saw, there isn't much practical use for one around these parts. It was fun with a 25" bar, but still weighed about 987lbs. in 30" and under wood, you be hard pressed to tell a real usable difference in a good runnig 066/660/395. racing these monsters is another story.

look at the size of the powerhead compared to a 660...

Oh I know this is not a practical saw and there is no way I can justify this on any level. I'm pretty sure I will never own one but it is still a pretty impressive saw and man is it big and heavy lol

Steve is right, no good reason to run one in smaller wood other than one that's been race prepped or otherwise modified. I'm pretty sure mdavlee has done some work with them too, both on the bench and in the wood. Stick one in a 48"+ log and you begin to understand its strong points.

Doesn't stop me from wanting one either.

084 is much better stock. I've had a few of the big stihls and a 3120. They are good for milling and big wood with a 42"+.

If you have a need for a saw that big? Then it's plenty worth it. But if your in wood under 36" then an 064/066/660/661 should be plenty :D

The new 661 is an enticing saw.. ;) :dex:

no, he had a good eye. was a quick pick of he 084 before I sold it. My garage has been a storage unit since I moved because I travel so much. I had MAD long before CAD. my father and I had a restoration business for the 1964-1970's. The white 1966 was my first mustang, completely redone it twice, will have a 2013 5.0 EFI motor when it is all said and done (or if I hit the lottery a 2014 GT500 drivetrain) I've owned 29 mustang to date.. the red 66 is my brothers that I was apposed to store for 3 months. its been almost 3 years. the red 86 is a buddies too. I want my garage back...

Yup...just like having a few stihls and some husk's.... You probably can imagine how much crap I've gotten over the years being a mustang dork with silverados...

My "new one" with only 130k.

My old one... Had 298k on it when I traded it in. Really miss that one. It was paid for, would pull anything, got 20-22 mpg and had more power than the "new" one. My work truck was in for warranty work and just happened to find the new one used so I gave the loaner back and bought the 08 used and trailered my 2000 back in, sight unseen on trade

I'm a multi-colored fella when it comes to vehicles.....not partial to any one brand, I like quite a few manufacturers. At the moment I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, a 1997 GM Sierra K2500, a 1996 Ford Contour GL, a 1971 Ford Maverick Grabber (with 57k original miles on her), and a 1949 Willys Overland 4wd wagon that I put a 10" lift under and an early Ford Bronco 302 in her.....the Willys is a project, it's around 65-70% done. It's a 64k mile vehicle that had been sitting in a carport since 1964!!

Anyway, I'll have to dig some pics up....as for the old Grabber, I've always loved those little cars. Mine has some motor work done to the original 302 (cam, heads, intake carb and rear diff), she hauls azz (car only weights around 2750lbs). I have a windsor here and I thought about building a 408 stroker for it, but honestly I like the car the way it is....I may put a 5 speed in her because I love slapping gears so that's under personal debate.....as you can see I'm diverse in my cars..

As for the really big saws, I've got several 075 and 076's in various states of disrepair/condition, had a chance to get an 090 a while back but I'm kinda glad I didn't yet, as others have said it'd be more for the novelty of it and that's a lot of money just to sit and stare at.....lol

Pic of my toy before I put her away for the winter......
