Am running a Woodstock Progress Hybrid. Two years and a couple of months between sweeps. The adjustable pipe had literally a teaspoon of light dust. The elbow where the pipe goes through the ceiling above the stove was clean in most places, but on the downside had two patches of about 1/4 inch thick very light dust. Cap had a small amount of light dust that fell off with a light tap. Twenty some foot long chimney had about a quart of light powder. Am very happy, especially since I have burned a significant amount of less than ideally dried wood.
Sweet! After a few years of running a catalytic stove, I'm still impressed with how clean burning they are
Nice. These modern cat. stoves really do burn clean. I think when the dust settles (no pun intended), they are going to be the only ones left on the market when the new regs. go in on woodstoves. Brian
I just commented the other day about how clean burning my PH is, if the secondaries don't burn away the nasties the combustor gets them. I'll be checking my cap but don't expect it to get filled with crud like it used to.
That there is a very good health report on your flue. I hope to see similar with the first brushing this first year with the Ideal Steel.
Clean burning downstream of the cat. Upstream, maybe not so much (icky firebox). No offense meant toward cat lovers...
Interesting, Gark. My firebox is light gray...same as when I got it. Occasionally, if I burn wetter wood, the box will get black, but as soon as the stove gets hot (above 350 surface temp), the firebox cleans right up.
The Ideal Steel must burn somewhat different than your PH. Cheapskate that I am, the IS can run with air intake so low that no firebox flames exist at all - the combustor does all the work .. and I like to run it that way to stretch the fuel. In fact, posts in the IS threads indicate that in this "cat only mode", that's when the IS puts out the most heat. It can be run with secondaries flaming but then the stove doesn't get as hot as cat mode but rather radiant heat shoots out the front window like a firehose. Anyhoo, in cat-only-burns, the firebox and window do get black. This agrees with posts by Blaze King users running that way (40 hour burns holy smokes) with low long cycles. No sweat with the dirty firebox because a nice hot firebox burn with secondary flames cleans it up nicely - the firebox heat burns away the blackness. If your PH can run with no firebox flames and still keep a clean firebox / window, that is a mystery. It must be using magic.
ICC is a brand name, an excellent double wall chimney; and excellent double wall ultrablack stove pipe. Guaranteed for life, and will withstand some pretty significant chimney fires. Company is located in Quebec, one of the major suppliers in NA; they also make RSF fireplaces. Sorry about the way I responded before. I thought you were asking me if my pipe was ICC.
Welling cleaned my tube stove at the end of last season and was shocked at how little I got too... About 1/8 cup after a whole season. wildwest http://www.icc-rsf.com/en/our-products
Mine does too, I ran it like that in the milder weather and there was just a little cloudy film on the glass that burns off when I run it hot.
