Isn't beetle kill lodge pole the stuff that you can cut and burn on the same day. Much less than 20% on the stump?

When i was living in town. Neighbor would harvest and burn the same day black smoke all day long. Four houses up from him had a chimney fire that same year. Wanted to educate myself and be prepared. Also i really don't follow all the rest of the lemmings.
Yeah, I got sidetracked by the idea of all that work, and forgot that you just keep at it. Can you tell I haven't processed any firewood for a while? I can.

Nuclear spurts.....right. I shoveled some this morning, then raked some off the roof this afternoon, then split about 1/4 5x10' trailer of dead Oak for my SIL about an hour ago. I'm tired.
If you can swing it, I'd get a log load delivered ASAP, (if that is Spring ,well, not much choice) ( I assume it's beetle kill lodge pole too) get it CSS, it'll season thru Summer & be ready for next year. & the year after ....>>>> + maybe a little left (depending how much it stacks up to be.) Now you have wood & are ahead at least a year. Then go check out the cutting area, (Maybe you have already) (Where/how did you get the wood you have now ? ) Try to get a reasonable system so you can get a cord in a weekend. (10 week ends , 10 cords) Now you are on the 3 or 4 year plan. Now in the future, you just have to CSS one years supply, to replace what you burned. It took a few years, but I have 3 years worth in the wood shed & 1 years worth (7 cord) (I just finished stacking) CSS'd outside to season . In August , it'll go in the section of the shed I use this year, next year I CSS 1 years worth etc etc.....>>>> PS: No matter what , you need a new saw: DexterDay says so Wood shed might need to go on the "to do list" Be fun & cool to build one framed out of lodgpole
Bought a permit from forest service. My trailer is 6x12x4 was able to bring four loads out before snow flew. Missed both deer hunt and elk hunt. Still have tag for late cow. Wood shed is a must project. Cool idea on the lodge pole. Now my head is really spinning Mill would give a better deal in the spring.
Gotta have near 4 cord there? Makes it doable if you have the time , & the wood is reasonably accessible Not sure how it all works there, Snow machine (atv) allowed in to drag wood out? (going green here in some Federal areas with snow machines, have to be 4 cycle ) Ouch to missing deer & elk. Good luck with the late cow. A motivating factor to get a bunch done before 2015 hunting season. LOL
Permits only good till middle of November. Great midnight rides on the snow machines. No access for any thing else. Maybe a tracked wheeler. When I grow big. Wanna be like all the hoarders here Seeing that it can be done is what has motivated me the most. Thanks to all. Also will some tell my wife I really really need a splitter.
Even a beetle kill pine will benefit from 6-8 months seasoning. I burn a bunch of Southern Yellow Pine that I C/S/S during the late winter(Feb-Mar), it is worlds better than burning dead pine c/s/s in August. If all I had was beetle killed pine(and I could) I'd have 2years stacked out, with my mixture of hardwoods and softwoods I have 4-5yrs If you start to break down what $60/cord delivered to your yard in convenience equates to: Drive time to & from wood processing area + fuel =??? figure in your time to load up the wood processing tools here as well Time to find size up & drop tree=10-20mins Time to limb tree-15-20mins Time to haul tree in manageable lengths to trailer = no telling how far tree is from roadway Load and unload rounds from the trailer= handle it twice You'll have between 3-5hours minimum tied up in getting 1 cord of rounds to the house .....in rounds that still need to be processed Or you sit on the porch and watch a grapple drop logs in your yard, cut at a leisurely pace(evening if you want something to do) and split/stack as the area becomes cluttered with rounds. Once done with your pile you can cut at a leisurely pace on the forest lands
<-------------------- GOTTA have a splitter! I'd haul as much wood as I possibly could and throw it on a pile if you got room, pile it up everywhere, keeping in mind that a priority is to have 5 cord split ASAP so it can season for next year
Wife would like me to start thread on pros and cons of owning a splitter. I think she thinks I'm that 20 yr old she married. No six pack here. Just working on a baby keg
