From what I've read, the folks at the mini-mall with the tattoo parlor have their area squared away. Nobody is messing with them. Rightly so.

Well, I've got my poor man's AR (KelTec 5.56 carbine) by the bedside, simple iron sights, respectable accuracy, very reliable (gas piston upper) and very lightweight, just the way I like it. I don't think I'll be adding the chainsaw bayonet to that package. (But it does carry an extra 30 round AR mag in the stock if I want to add weight to it.)

Oh yeah, I'm on the side of looters and people throwing rocks at the police. People perpetrating those acts are clearly in the wrong. But I doubt it's predominantly white people who are suffering most from the looting, and yet people here are expressing concern for their own safety. Most likely in Ferguson it's black business owners in the neighborhoods are the ones who are losing what they have put years of labor into.

It's not always black people breaking the law. Our house was robbed this past year, and living in Vermont, it's pretty unlikely that the one black person who lives in the state was responsible.

You think so do you. Well here in Louisiana at the Penitentiary I worked at in Winnfield, La. , out of 1900 inmates why was 87% of the population black?

I'm an old fashioned Catholic. As such, I take our Catechism seriously:
    Legitimate defense

2263 The legitimate defense of persons and societies is not an exception to the prohibition against the murder of the innocent that constitutes intentional killing. "The act of self-defense can have a double effect: the preservation of one's own life; and the killing of the aggressor. . . . The one is intended, the other is not."65

2264 Love toward oneself remains a fundamental principle of morality. Therefore it is legitimate to insist on respect for one's own right to life. Someone who defends his life is not guilty of murder even if he is forced to deal his aggressor a lethal blow:
If a man in self-defense uses more than necessary violence, it will be unlawful: whereas if he repels force with moderation, his defense will be lawful. . . . Nor is it necessary for salvation that a man omit the act of moderate self-defense to avoid killing the other man, since one is bound to take more care of one's own life than of another's.66
2265 Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others. The defense of the common good requires that an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm. For this reason, those who legitimately hold authority also have the right to use arms to repel aggressors against the civil community entrusted to their responsibility.

Again, I'm a Christian, not a pacifist. I'm responsible for the lives of my family. Therefore I have an obligation to be able to defend them and to render an unjust aggressor unable to cause them harm.

Ok fellas, this thread has run its course, and it is a sensitive subject, and we've let it open so everyone could vent some frustration. I'm gonna lock it up. Relax, we ain't upset at anyone....

That said, say a prayer for the innocent (and even the guilty) in the wake of the unrest in Ferguson and elsewhere. Pray that we, as a complete nation of not white or black, not Mexican, African, Irish, German, Italian, Chinese, etc.....but as a nation of AMERICANS (because that is what we ALL ARE) can overcome and rise to the occasion of civility. Our kids and grandkids depend on us to do so. Will our ancestors look back and be shamed by our actions (not just as looters and rioters but as people who relished in their misery and failure)? Let's be better than that. We're a great family of great people here, everyone who visits our site sees the things we talk about. Let's show them the true class and human respect we all have here. I'm as frustrated at the direction this nation is going in as the rest of you, trust me. Let's pray for our nation and try to get it back on track......
