Turns out I had my dates confused and the 3 year old oak I'm burning this year isn't really 3 years old. I was looking thru some pictures on my phone and realized it is in fact 4 years old.

I'm not really sure how old next year's wood will be. That's a problem.

    Speaking of petrified......
Part of a 10 foot long White Oak limb I found while out for a walk in the woods a couple weeks back.It had to be on the ground 15 years easily, cant believe I missed it when working nearby in June.Threw it up on my shoulder (probably 80-100 lbs) & walked up the hill 150 feet over to the processing area.Quite dense, close to Hickory, though Hickory will barely last 2-3 yrs on the ground before its compost.
Slow burning, very hot with small bluish yellow flames & no sparks. Some of it was burned last night.

Well do you like the 4 year oak better than you liked the 3 year oak ?

    It'll get better with age

Four year oak is ideal - I have about 2.5 cord that was stacked in 2010 that is in the barn for this winter's cold weather- damm it burns well! Enjoy! Cheers!
