Ethanol/fuel quality in general is one of the main reasons we are seeing mtronic and AutoTune systems on new saws. Yes, performance is one but in reality I can see where fuel quality issues were becoming major warranty expense liabilities. Imagine, a saw runs awesome in one area on ethanol free fuel but is a turd two towns over where E-10 is all you can get.

These components add some weight, as do the much more complex stratocharging systems that are on all new saws. So unless you are subtracting weight in other areas, the result is a heavier saw.

The stoichiometric air fuel ratio of ethanol is 9:1 whereas for gasoline it is 14.7:1.

So you can see that if you add ethanol to gasoline you are going to need different needle settings with varying ratios of gasoline and ethanol or no ethanol.

Plus the addition of ethanol to gasoline is not taken very seriously by those responsible for the combination.

E10 gasoline as a concrete fact is fiction. Your gasoline at the pump may be E5 today and next week E15 or 20.

Then we add oil to the picture? 50:1 or 32:1? Dino oil which contributes to combustion or synthetic some of which does not contribute to combustion?

Really what I was trying to say is that we have systems like MT and AutoTune more so because of fuel quality and emissions issues rather than the performance advantage.

So this is what came home with me today as i didnt find any bad reviews about them. Will also try to run high test through it at all times.
Its not the Husky i know, just hoping it lasts me longer than the usual 2 to 3 years any other saw i have abused here at the house.. ;)
Lots of great info on this thread gang! Thanks :)

    Nice looking saw !
    Size bar ?
    that the CS 590 ?
    Should last many years.
How many cord of wood per year do you cut ?

I know the book says 50:1
    I'd mix 40:1
& if using ethanol fuel, not leave any in the saw for long periods.

    Thanks dave.

It has the 18in bar and yes its the 590. I am down to about 12 cord a year now as my ol buddy across the road got rid of his old wood/oil furnace a couple years ago. :) gotcha on the oil.;)

Had an echo years ago and thanks Fuzz. Liked it for sure.

Thanks Chvy and its gonna have to wait till Thursday afternoon for the first test.:)

Not just heavier, but larger! Compare a 440 to a 441 or 260 to a 261... They're quite a bit different in the feel and handling as well. I'm not a big fan of the new Stihls, though they do run good. You couldn't pry my 440 or 260 out of my hands. I ended up buying a J'red over the 261, not making that mistake again. I have maybe 3 tanks through my 441cmR.

EXCELLENT post. A few years ago, one of the local marinas tested a customers gas in their brand new bass boat (that was having problems), to find out that the ethanol content was over 20%. What a nightmare.
