I was going to wait for PSA black Friday ad, but then I found this Troy for $599:

    http://troydefense.com/portfolio/troy-bravo-rifles/

Canadian flag or not, am I wrong thinking that's a flaming good deal on a quality rifle w/ quadrail?
I mean, the rail itself sells for $200!

Reply quick ar guys....gonna buy thing thing TODAY before they sell out if you all give it the thumbs up!

I would go for a PSA because I will never send troy any of my money for a couple of reasons. I'm sure they make a fine product, but they are not a good company to support.

You could build your own from PSA deals for less too

Why is that? I'm all new to the AR market/world.

They've made some very questionable hires. Google 'troy hiring decisions' and there's plenty of reading material so you can decide for yourself. It doesn't matter to some people, but Id rather not support a company that hired who they did. Sorry for being vague, but I don't want this to turn political. I don't know exactly what's off limits, so I'll let you find the specifics yourself

But like I said, if you're interested in building one, PSA usually has daily deals, especially around Black Friday. And I bet you could build a quality rifle for well under 600 bones

Then you have extra money for ammo :D

Guns aren't, it's just that the troy debacle deals with Ruby Ridge, and those debates can often turn political. I'll leave it at that :drunk:

Anyway, congrats on getting into the AR world. I've been pinching pennies trying to save up for one. It's hard as a broke college kid though:rofl: . Lots of good forums out there for technical info if you wanted to build your own. From what I understand, it's pretty simple. CDNN has been running a pretty good sale on Bushmaster patrolmans IIRC, so that may be something to check out

I would second going with the PSA for all of the above stated reasons. Not sure what your budget is but check out Wyndham if you are wanting a built AR.

Factory built I'd go Wyndham or if you want gas piston go with the Ruger 516. I'm putting together an upper with Noveske parts and they're a bit expensive but I got all the parts so far slightly used for not much. Mas Defense has some nice uppers if you wanted to got that route. What are you going to be doing with it? Plinking or hunting at any distance?

I never could get as good of accuracy out of the PSA upper I had. The bushmaster my friend owns is a 1/2-3/4 moa at 4-500 yards.

I'll second the Wyndham...I don't have one but have friends that do. I got my lower from New Frontier LW-15 (Polymer) and love it

    I ended up going psa.
Upper is 16" stainless 1/8 twist ptac w/ bcg and ch $269
Lower is ptac w/ blackhawk! Furniture. $149

I know it's ptac but my goal was a sub $500 ar total package. I appreciate quality rifles like everyone else but I have limited funds without selling off something which I really don't like doing.

I traded some 22LR ammo for a nib nikon bdc223 scope ($150 value) so I am in this total package with shipping and transfer for under $500!

I still need a scope mount and lots o ammo. A new trigger is next on the list. Any recommendations? Cheap is good.

Next step is to start reloading 223. I've never loaded necked cartridges, only pistol, so this will all be new to me.

Geisselle triggers are the only ones I've used. The SSA is my choice for a hunting rifle. They make a cheaper version of it that doesn't have the anodized coating.

I have a PTAC upper and it shoots well for the price.

If you know a good gunsmith they can stone or smooth the surfaces on your stock trigger and drop a JP Enterprises spring kit in the gun and significantly improve the stock trigger for not very much money. If you don't know a good gunsmith; and there are plenty of bad ones, send me a PM I may be able to help.

Necked cartridges are not rocket science.
