Neighbor across the drive from me ( I live an a dead end easement) installed a wood stove this summer, not sure the brand, said he got it at H.D. He had a small load of wood delivered around Sept, thinking it is not all that seasoned as his chimney is always producing alot of smoke, noticed he split what wood he has left into smaller pieces, I assume to get them burning easier. he is about out of wood and its not even winter yet. I may have to help him out and sell him some of mine, It kills me everytime I look out the window and see this
At least he's got the sense to split it smaller. You may be making some spendin money in the near future
He was out working in the yard a few months ago, so i went and talked to him about the new stove pipe coming out of the roof, said he just got a new stove. Said he had to find someplace to buy wood for this year, than hoped to scrounge some for the upcoming years I told him I scrounge all my wood, he about had a coronary when I took him in my back yard and showed him my set up and explained to him how it works, stack and split on skids in double rows with plenty of air space for a min of 1 year ( softwood) than into my covered areas for winter burning
I hope he gets by this year ok, and prepares for the next couple seasons. I hope he cleans his chimney often this season.
On a 3 or 4 months that might be flames coming out the chimney. Be nice to at least meet & see how he likes burning wood & the "dry wood" topic come up again
I plan to do just that, I just need to do it in a tack full way, some time i have a issue with being to blunt
I think he's gonna come ask if he can buy some wood from you especially after you showed him your arsenal . You might have some nice money before Christmas
Good luck, get him on this site to clue him in. You might give him a couple of arm loads to let him try it before he buys it. Cause you know pictures are worth a thousand words. Or you can bring him over for a beer and light your stove up in front of him. A lot of options... Out there, a beer and a conversation are always good openers...
I think my one neighbor may be the same way. Small wood pile but always talking about burning. Talking about cutting some tree cause he needs wood. I said yea I got a couple I'm trying to make room for. He said man I don't think you need anymore. I don't think he wants to put the work into it.
Show him some hoarder pics of all of our stacks... ... including the new fella who's got "only" about 70-80 cords now in his barn... ... that ought to break a sweat...
Knowing that you have that issue will make it easier to go lightly with him. There are more ways than one to get a point across but doing it nicely makes it acceptable a bit easier.
That guys sounds like a prime candidate for Eco Bricks cause he ain't gonna get a winter's worth of truly seasoned wood at this point. That chimney looks like my college dorm room when....oh, never mind.
