Those who saw my earlier post on what vehicle to buy will remember me tossing around all the makers.

I talked myself out of the Ford...couldnt handle all the issues with the 5.4. The tahoe was a strong contender esp with lots fuel economy listed.

But we ended up staying with Toyota. It reminds my with of her Highlander which she loves and its bigger than the tahoe. We dont like the third row tumbles like the tahoe but we dont really need them and can leave them out most times anyway.

This one has a rear Dvd player. I think its aftermarket...maybe dealer installed for new purchase? But it takes the factory dome light. So the front seat has almost no light the way the bulbs in it light the middle seat. So I wired the front map lights to come on as domes. I still need to put in diodes so that when I manually turn on a map light that they all dont come on...but were fine with that as they are now.

Was missing 2 center caps??? Got those. Replaces the dome lights in rear and the dvd player as they were black?? Replaces the "D" drive indicator bulb in the gauge cluster. Had to put a new power mast in the antennae. And got lucky when we bought it as there was a CD stuck in the dvd player but I was able to get it out and a test dvd proved it functional.

Also need to get the rear bumper painted and a small dent above the bumper repaired. Its amazing how many used large SUVs have scuffed or busted paint where people back into things!!!

Hopefully it turns out to be a good vehicle.

Congrats on the purchase! !

You know the rules ;) Pics or it never happened :ithappened:

How many miles on the odometer? Did you get service records? 10 yrs old may prove to need some maintenance, unless already completed

    155k

I have some minor stuff I can see from car fax. But service records on a used vehicle are pretty hard to get.

I do see a sticker under hood saying timing belt done at 106k so thats good for another 50k. As toyota recommends that at 90k. I will probably replace plugs. And going to drain fill the trans (even though toyota says you dont need to change fluid!!!!). And steering and everything feels tight and no clunks like bad joints ball or U joints. I need to check the rear pads bit the fronts look good for a few more years. I need tires but knew that going into it. IMG_20141113_074019_496.jpg It has about 10k miles less than the highlander so lots a tad newer.

It spent its whole life in georgia. And went back for many things including oil changes to the same dealer. And last owner was not the original but they traded it at same dealer. So I am not to worried about the frame that issue...plus frame looks good.

And at 155k miles this is the low mileage vehicle in my garage!

My daily driver saturn has 247k and my ranger that use to be a daily driver has 302k on it and my 1980 k10 says 120k but I have no idea how many times it flipped and it supposedly is not still on the original motor. I bought it from a mechanic that said he bought it from the original owner as his first truck at like 16...he sold it later to another kid...then bought it back like 10 years later and kept it a few more years till I bought it from him.

I love the room in the engine compartment compared to the fords..the fords have crap bolted all over the place!!! This reminds me of a truck 25 years ago under the hood. There is electronics but there neat and everything has its place with room...not all piled and wedged in on top of everything like the fords I looked at.

The one downside to toyotas is they have bad has mileage. Not just this blog one cause all big suvs get bad mpg but even Taco mas and our smaller highlander did not do good for its size.

But many say this motor is a good one and there very reliable.

This is the 4.7L which is not big in the HP department but has good torque down low. I can see why the HP fans and engineers developed the new v8 for the updated body style in 08. This one produces 240HP..the expedition has 260hp in the 2v 5.4 and 300HP in the 3v. I think the tahoe was also in the 300HP range and it got better mpg and that was out of a smaller motor, the 4.6. I know the numbers aren't comparable as the power is in two different places but the highlander had 220hp, but you really had to wind it up to feel it.

    Thanks for the compliments.

Small world, Dublin is about a half hour from where I'm sitting right now. How'd you like Augusta? It's earned the nickname down here of disgusta

Congrats on the purchase. I hope it serves you well  You seem to get a lot of miles out of your cars, so 155 ain't bad. My truck is pushing 250

I borrowed an '08 Sequoia with the 5.7* for a trip this summer... and it got less than 15 MPG on the highway, with me babying it. 13 MPG around town. My Cummins Ram gets 18-20.

Yea but the cummings ram has a premium on it. Plus unless you put an old man top on a truck or one of those stupid hard covers that I hate you have no dry storage for trips or shopping. This is a family and trip vehicle.

Tahoe has the best in class fuel economy.

The Sequoias are great cars, I just couldn't believe how bad the mileage was.

Oh you were talking about a Toyota!! I thought you were talking about ford with a 5.4, isnt the new toyota v8 a 5.7???

Not sure how trustworthy the onboard computer mpg is but it says 15.6 avg?? I havent put gas in it a second time to even get the first estimite. Yet.

Edit: just Google the larger v8 available in 08 and later is a 5.7 the old v8 and only one available in the first gen is the 4.7L

Yep. You're right, it was a 5.7. Sorry for the confusion. :)

I like it! I'm currently deciding on either a Sequoia or Armada for the wife's next car. We've still got some time to decide though, as right now the family isn't large enough to need something bigger.

I only have one!! But all the stuff when we travel and the dog left the current one too small!!

I have heard the Toy gets better mpg?? Also think its bigger bit didnt look personally. The Armada is too new for me and I like toyotas better personally.

That's about where we are. 1 daughter and a Golden retrieve really fill up her CRV when we leave for a weekend! I'm not sure about gas mileage, other than I had an Armada for a week in Denver as a rental for work and driving through the mountains I still got 18mpg. I doubt that's typical, but I was impressed. To me it's a toss-up between Toyota and Nissan brand-wise. Toyota gets the nod for reliability, but Nissan adds a better "fun factor" into their vehicles which is important to me.

18 for the armada is the top of the spectrum. Their only suppose to get 17-19 depending upon motor if there is options, and drive train.

The Toy is stickered for 17-18 highway I think for the older or smaller motor and maybe about the nissan for the newer larger v8 the 5.7L
