I'm not familiar with boiled peanuts. I would assume you would get some useful peanut oil from the process?

Not that I recall, but you do get some delicious boiled peanuts!

Now that I think of it, there is a boiled peanut vendor at the local swap meet. At $10 bucks a pound, I just walked on by.

Serve them hot and soggy and slurp them down, brine included.

Ooookay. I was thinking you must take the soft shell off of them and then throw some salt on them and eat the peanut?

    No?[IMG]

why do you want to go ruin perfectly good peanuts?
I have tried boiled peanuts a couple times, just not my cup of tea. must be a acquired taste kinda thing

Cook them in salt water, if they aren't salt enough you add more when you serve. Don't eat the shells.

Interesting. Are boiled penalties a southern thing? They're all over the place here in the peanut state of course. Never occurred to me that it might not be widespread

Never heard of this but would be down to try it for sure! So what do I do, grab a sack of peanuts - un-roasted I would presume, and then toss them into a vat of boiling water. Sounds easy enough.

How long you let them rumble in the water? And so what's this eating technique, you just drain them and chow down on them while they are still all mushy and damp? Clue me in on the nuances of boiled peanuts.

Raw peanuts in shell. Boil in salt water (on Woodstove is good) and then let simmer about 3 hours. Serve hot and soggy.

Wow you let them simmer for 3 hours! Alright I'm game, will be trying this in the future.

Yep, three hours. Remember, these are raw unroasted nuts-- they need time to cook.

I have tried them and wasn't a fan at all. I much prefer them roasted.
