Great piece of equipment. I've found that the log stand becomes almost unusable when the ground is wet. It tends to sink into the wet ground under the weight of the log rather than holding the log off the ground. Usually I can find a rock to put under the foot and that helps but sometimes, if the log is large, the weight pushes the foot and rock into the ground. It's not that big a deal, I just cut part way through, hook and turn the log, cut and hook, turn and cut until I'm through it. On dry or frozen ground it's the bee's knees. We have clay soil here in my part of Kentucky so that may be part of the reason it sinks in so often.

The stihls are nice but they're a little pricey, I think I'll get one from northern. Let us know how you like yours

That's a Secret Santa hint if I've ever seen one. Peavey/timber jack might be a bit high I think those pick things fit in the budget.

You'll like it as long as the ground is not to soft, works good also for rolling to finish cuts. I think Logrite makes them for Stihl so witch ever you can find the best deal on for anyone looking for one. Glad I got the 60" handle, lifts a pretty good size log up. logrite1.jpg

I think is was around $100 with a coupon I had from Ben Meadows. Edit: I have the 60" not the 48"

The one from Northern Tool is a heavy SOB but I think I got mine for $50-60.
I seldom use the log stand as it as equally as dangerous working on a hill/slope, I just use the hook to roll for the finish cut
